Hiya people
I hope someone here can help me or have come across this before cos this problem has me stumped:
I've noticed a whining noise coming from my Euro'03 - now I'm not sure whether it's the brakes, or the suspension. All I know is that after driving the car for half a day or more in hot weather I can hear a whine going through the front part of the car and it can be felt like a shudder through the accelerator / brakes.
The whine noise also gets worse at time when the car is parked after a long drive - the noise goes something like this hwuuuunnggg and it goes on for a while.
Is this something I should be concerned about - and anyone experienced this before esp Euro'03 owners?

Do you hear it when you accelerate and when you let go of the acceleration? its like a light whistle right?

This may be a long shot but take the front wheels off and check around the calipers and brake pads for a foreign object.
Sometimes a small rock gets jammed in between the calpier and wheel and makes an annoying whiney screechy noise intermittently, which can depend on how hot it is or how long i've been driving.
lol it took me weeks to figure out what it was initially, I thought my brake pads already worn down.
...speaking of which, maybe you just need the brake pads changed?
There is a safety pin in the pads that rub on the brake disc to tell you its time to change the pads.

maybe its just the fan?

I think yes it is a bit like a light whistle and yes it does occur when accelerating and letting it go. It also occurs like I said when the car is at rest after driving around in a hot day..... do you know why this is then?

I think my brake pads are fine - they do make the occassional screeching / whiney noise as you've described but it doesn't bother me too much as long as I know the brakes are OK....

I don't think it's the fan - it would be more like something with the brakes / suspension - a light whistling noise like Reagan mentioned

Do you mean that it makes the noise when the engine is running but not actually moving? Or is it only when you're moving?

The noise was initially heard most often when the car is parked, engine switched off after driving - however, when I drive now I can hear that noise also while the car is on the road!
Sometimes the noise is quite loud when the car is parked (engine off) - like a loud whistling / whine noise.
FYI: I've just serviced the car for 30000kms and they've not noted anything abnormal in the service report so I think I'll keep an eye on this

primetimex, whereabouts are you located? Maybe we would have a mini Accord Euro meet and check out your car noises. :)

Unfortunately I'm in Perth - what I'll do maybe is carry a tape recorder with me and try to record the noise when it re-occurs again!

Well if the engine is off when you hear the noise then it maybe like something stored under pressure, or maybe its an angry possum hiding in the rear bumper :P
Check the coolant system, ensure the coolant level is above the MIN level in the reserve container. When the noise happens again, stop the car and open the radiator lid, but use a thick rag so you dont burn yourself. If the noise stops, that could be the problem
It could also be a problem with the fuel or brake pressure but not likely.

it could be ur cooling system...
because u said u can hear it when the you've been driving for long periods or on hot days...that is, ur water temp is most likely going to be hotter...
first off, check ur coolant/water levels...
there could be a small leak somewhere...and the whistle noise could be from the coolant/water spurting out as it's under pressure after u drive...
i remember once when my radiator had a tiny crack in it...i'd get out of my car and hear this noise similar to a whistling noise (but not that loud)....popped my hood and noticed some steam coming out of the crack in my radiator....
that's also how i found out that my radiator was busted and needed replacement...

Thanks for all your replies everyone!!!
Eurodude/Random804 - yes I think I'll check on the coolant / water level and also the radiator - that seems to be most likely the cause. I'll check those and bring it in to the dealer service tomorrow just to make sure!

I will - I dont' know about it sounding nice - I'm actually worried since it sounds like the car maybe complaining!!!
But yeah I'll take it down to service and check for radiator cracks......

if there IS a radiator crack, u'll notice a spike in the engine temperature coz u're losing coolant/water fast as you drive...

Finally got some answers to this whining noise on my 03 Euro - it's actually due to noisy TX (thermal expansion) valve.
Fortunately, the car is still under warranty as replacing the TX valve is a big job.
Determined the problem was due to TX valve at dealers and while driving noticed that when the engine is under load from AC esp. during hot weather the noise will re-occur.
Hopefully this may help someone here who might experience similar problem!

Hi there, is TX valve for radiator? if so, where exactly is this valve located?

I'm not sure actually, according to the tech - it's located somewhere behind the dash - right behind the glovebox is - and I don't know about TX valve purpose on the Euro - but someone correct me if I'm wrong here - I understand it is a thermal expansion valve commonly used in cooling / refrigeration systems......
The whining problem got worse and worse since the last three years or so I had the car - until now you can hear it clearly even when the audio is on loud!!

The dealer said that the noise was due to faulty TX Valve - and funny thing was that even on my brand new Euro 06 Lux - it still had the noise - a different noise, this time it's a scratchy kind of noise coming from behind the front passenger glove box where the valve was supposed to be....
I'm starting to think that this might be a more widespread problem that warrants further investigation. I've asked the local dealer Prestige Honda to raise this with Honda Australia.

Hi guys, sorry to bring an old thread up but i have a similar problem. i have an 07 auto and Im getting a constant whining noise and it sounds like its coming from the engine bay. however, the whining noise only comes after 20 minutes of driving or so..... and the noise gets louder as i accelerate... and when i stop accelerating and letting the car run.. the noise is somewhat not as loud..does anyone have any past experiences and know what the noise could be coming from? :(
this is starting to concern me as the noise is only getting louder and louder.. its been around 2 months since.

your power steering hose is probably leaking. There's a recall on the euros cause the leak is a fire hazard. Look at the sticky thread for more details.
