Hey all,

ive got a 5th gen accord, just recently ive noticed that when im driving, i get this whistling noise coming out from under the bonet on the drivers side..

it is also noticable when the car is idling, and ive found that if i put the clutch in about 1/2 inch it seems to go away...

not 100% sure wot it could be.. ive tried describing it as best i can but i find it hard to explain, but any insight to any possibilities would really be appreciated..

When is it doing this? Is it at certan rpm's? What have you done to your motor, suspension, brakes, trans.?

the only time i can tell its doing it is when im in low revs, but i only usually notice it in 1st gear and sometimes 2nd when im driving.. once the exhaust opens up i cant hear anything, now im not sure whether its just been muffled by the exhaust or whether the sound goes away, but its just mainly when the car is goin really slow...

as far as the motor goes, stock f22b3 motor.

my clutch has been changed a few months back, do u think something could be slipping out of place there, coz when the clutch is slightly in, the sound goes?

Could it be your throwout bearing?

yeh ive only really taken notice of mine at about 1500 - 2000rpm, anything after that i dont really hear coz the exhaust muffles a lot of sound..

if you get a whistling at idle/low rpms check your belts arent loose

You wouldn't hapen to have a cold air or ram air intake?

I know what it is! Do you really want to know? See the old air box muffled this noise but when you pulled it out you took out the noise suppression (Easiest word to use!) and now you hear it clearly now. With the air intake speeds at a certain velocity and the throttle plate at the right angle you made a whistle! If you want to get rid of it you can simply file down the sharp edges of the throttle plate, don’t make it out of round, just take the square ness away. This will help but never fix it. There isn’t a way to fully get rid of it but you can make it quieter. I looked on the AEM forums for this as it was a big topic there but since the move they lost some good material!!

Have you ruled out that its just a noise made due to induction?

since u said it sounded like crickets my car made that sound before because of the timing belt. had to adjust the timing a bit or something. not sure if this is related to ur problem tho.

so jst an update, what started as just a service is now going to cost me big bucks, that whistling noise is actually my throttle body, and it has something to do with my clutch not being installed properly..
now im almost tempted to just leave this be, wear this clutch out and get another decent one, rather than pay labour for them to take out my gearbox etc now, and fix the problem, and have the possibility that my clutch goes 6mnths down the track and im payin for this to all be re done again..

Well if you let it go there could be more damage done. Find out how much life is left on the installed clutch and what can happen. Then look at clutches you could get and see what you want, then decide. I wouldn't got more than a month or two but that's me. I can afford to do it and can do it myself.

My friend has the same problem in his 2005 Honda Accord V6 Luxury.

He found out what it is and how to fix it too from Honda, something was loss, a bearing or something, I will post up the result when I see him next.
