I now have 302,000+kms on this car/engine

Purchased with 105,000kms on the odometer 6 years ago. B16A engine has never been opened for major repairs (likewise gearbox).

I tend to still put the boot in to 8000 RPM, no oil needed between 5000km changes, still puts the power down nicely :)

Average mileage per year really depends on location as well.
But for a 4cyl Civic, i would say < 15,000km a year.

My old Gen2 1982 Wagon (my old pizza delivery car) did 890,000 before it finally shagged itself.

And that was only due to the timing belt snapping

Current 1998 EK Hatch is just about to hit 100K in the next few days. Booked in for 100k service next week already.

As long as you service the engines and dont replace the parts with cheap generic crap they last forever.

Ive seen my mates 74 civic engine get put into 3 different shells over the years.
The engine just keeps going and going.
Same cant be said about the chassis

Just thought I'd ad, friend of mine has an SOHC Excel as a courier car, its done now almost 400,000kms and still on original engine and gearbox, still runs fine, starts first go etc etc, why, gets regular services, so there's no reason the honda wouln't go to 1,000,000 if you keep looking after it.

I bought a EG 92 Civic Sedan for like $1k because it had done 360,000k's. Most things seemed just fine! I've since replaced the engine to a B18C thats done 115k's.

The only problem I found was the rotors needed replacing as they had worn down over time and a really dangerous thing was the panel where the radiator sits on was almost falling off. If the car would of been towed from the front the whole front would of just come off. A simple re-weld of the front fixed that and replaced the rotors and you wouldn't be able to tell the cars done more then 150,000k's ;)

Oh during the life of the EG the only thing that ever went wrong with the motor was the distributer needed replacing. So thats a pretty good testament of reliability of Hondas! :D

Yeah same here, whatup with Honda's distributors? They seem to fail more often than other cars. I was told by a mech that they should last for ages (longer than 300,000). Well maybe its because Honda's luv to rev high...

We've got a 75 civic sedan (4 door) which is still going excellently. We've had it since around 84 I think and I'm sure over that time it's done probably 250kms+ however as the odomoter only reaches 99,999 who knows how much it's actually done. From memory the only real major work done to it was to do with the gear box. My brother and dad have recently fixed it up to fix up body rust etc. It's such a mad car!

Original clutch is on it's way out though, still got the factory timing belt too.

My EM1 says 158xxxKM Pretty sure its been rolled back. Still runs like a dream, Doesn't burn a drop of oil till Abused in Vtec. Will be rebuilding soon as bottom gasket is showing signs of a very very slow leak(Cannot notice it with oil change every 5k). B20 bottom ftw!

MY07 CTR FN2R 35,000k's and its already had a cracked radiator from a rock while on the highway!! apart from that drives like a dream. All the standard servicing, 5000k - 10000k DIY with oem fluids (excluding engine oil). Treat it like a baby and it will keep you going and going for years to come! :D

202,800~km on the 1996 ek1.
Gets like 500km's to a tank on normal driving... and like 550~km on highway driving... but it's in need of a tune I think... Should be better after that. It's gotten a lot better since I drove it to dubbo.

188,000~km on the 1977 ec civic
Gets about 400-500k's on a tank during normal driving... depending on how hard you drive.
About 350km to a tank on highway driving... because 4 gears, yo

1991 May build ED Civic, at 385,000 still looks excellent for a 22 year old car and considering the age and k's goes well ( except for the odd persistant flooding carby issue :-( )

'90 ED CRX 104,000 kms mint
'91 ED Hatch 180,000 kms
'94 EG Hatch 377,000 on the chassis, unknown on the B18C2, but about 10,000 kms since the full rebuild
'00 EK Sedan 88,000 kms
'06 KB Legend 113,000 kms

All kms are genuine, none leak oil, ED uses a bit.
Fuel economy is about 7- 8 l/100KMs for all civics (EG a bit worse since the new exhaust, previous was straight through and VERY noisy, and about 12l/kms if using VTEC a lot)
Legend is 14.3 l/100kms round town (bad!), about 8.5l/100kms on the highway. I want to supercharge this engine badly...

Every single Honda I have owned (over 20) has been ultra reliable, many have gone beyond 200ks without issue. Fantastic engines. At least they were in the 80s and 90s.

wow, very nice

whats the story behind the crx?

The CRX is a 1990 Maroon CRX, genuine 104,000 km. It was owned by a mature lady in Melbourne for 21 years from new, kept in a garage, and did 98,000 kms. I bought it, shipped it to Brisbane, and it has been a weekend car for me.

It is completely stock, it does have a Momo wheel, genuine Honda aluminium gear knob, and Momo Quasar wheels 15*7 ET35 with Bridgestone RE001s, and an upgraded stereo. But I have all the original parts safely stored, steering wheel, wheels, gear knob. Only thing missing is the original stereo, and I am looking out for one. I also have a set of Mugen MR5's for the car, running RE001s, they are on the ED hatch at the moment. Factory spoiler, dark window tint.

Every single CRX this age has one fault, a rusty sunroof. Well, mine does too. I have just imported a new roof panel from US, and had it painted last week in factory colour. I am going to give it a few weeks for the paint to properly harden before installing it. A new seal is impossible to locate, but surprisingly, the old one is close to perfect, so it will do fine.

Considering selling it as it just doesn't get the use it deserves. The battery goes flat often as the car is alarmed. No idea what price to put on it though.....
