EG Civic Problems?

I want to buy a cheap EG, what are the most common problems found in EG's?
And what problems i will be looking at, say a civic thats done over 150,000 or more?

Ive had an eg for about 6 months and the clutch just went and its on 123000 ks
so check that out - if youre in melbourne maybe take it to hondatech in oakleigh and get them to have a good look at it - theyre great.

dizzy, power windows, cv boots, brake master cylinder... that'd be about it, honda's are really reliable.

Any car thats abused will have a heap of problems, any car thats looked after will go forever. Remember, you get what you pay for...

Look at service history (is it complete, what intervals between services, wher serviced etc?), previous owners- who has owned the car, what has it been used for etc.. (for example- Kstar, a clutch giving in after 120,000km has been thrashed or at the least driven very poorly..)

Hondas are extremely reliable when cared for. Its worth paying a little extra to know the history of a car if possible.

i have not had a single prob with my car...had it for about 9 months....

Get someone to check the car or pay RACV to check it for $100
is better then getting a lemon.
The EG is 11yr+ old car now so be prepare for some extra money for some minor repairs. The usual wear and tear item would be worn out or aged.

Apart from that is a really nice car to drive or to mod :D

loss of fluid, then loss of power asist stearing.
damage to the rack wich cost more to fix in the long run

its very hard to say cos each car has been trated differently,

you would want to buy one which a nanna has owned rather than a p plater, however a nanna would root the clutch but not thrash the g/box where the p plater would do it the other way or both.

so your ****ed either way.

the only problem i had with mine is the petrol tank kept goin empty whenever i drive a lot
had to keep filling it up every 500 k or so

hey when i got my breeze it had 150 on the clock... it was in good condtion only small problem i had was the crack in the block. that lead to the massive hole in the block.. but it was easaly fixed with time and money

Well from New to 250000km

1x Distributor coil 250,000
1x Distributor cap 225,000
1x Timing belt 200,000 (yeah I know - every 100,000km, i was lazy) :p
1x Gearbox recondition and new clutch 150,000
1x New CV joints 200,000
1x New radiator (I snapped the old one when changing the hoses!)
1x 2nd hand Catalyc Converter because I bottomed out going at 80km/h (damn sydney roads lol)
1x Drivers door hinge thing (the main one in the middle - dont ask me how that snapped!!!)
1x o2 sensor
1x Head seal 190,000



Current condition:
No ECU Codes :)
Just a leaky CAM seal.




lol ive never changed the brake or power steering fluid ... which I will do this week.

I drove a EG Civic VTI from 100,000km - 140,000 and in that time i had to replace the CV boots, and the rear wheel bearings.

I use to drive an EG civic, my mum owned it from brand new.

It did 168,000K's before i sold it year and half ago.

All i did was:

- Change Timing belt @ 100,000K's normaly as you would do and the water pump coz it was busted.

- Changed the rear wheel bearing @ 140,000K's i guess this is just wear and tear.

- Brake Master Cylinder @ about 140,000K's i think this was due to the brake guys that replaced my brakes stuffed it up dunno how but happened straight after they changed my brake pads.

Thats about it since we owned the car from new. It was serviced regularly by honda up until 80,000K's then never serviced it till 155,000K's but the car just ran smoothly.

It was an Auto.

i seem to have that problem to :P

My EG5 Si has had the gearbox replaced, and dizzy rebuilt, i bought it with full log books from brand new, serviced every 5000 and those 2 parts were replaced 1 month before i bought the car, the only thing i have to do is a major service in the next 10 000kms other than that tis very very very reliable (touch wood)

Also forgot to mention had to replace drivers door hinge
