I was reading something on jazz's and i noticed that it said the auto jazz's travelling at about 120kph has an average rpm of 2500-2900. My jazz being a manual hits 3000rpm at 100kph, and at 120kph its rmp is at about 3500.

My 2 friends who both drive the same model toyota corolla, one being manual and one being auto also experience this difference, the manual one being at 3000rpm at 100kph and the auto being about 2500rmp at 100kph.

I was just wondering if all manual/auto cars are like that, and also whats the rpm you guys get in your manual or auto jazz's on the freeway :D

3000 @ 100 km/h

manual / autos are meant to have that diference.
Mostly because autos are usually 4 speed, manuals are 5 speed etc. therefore the gearing is lower (final drive is higher) in the auto.

CVT has a so called "overdrive" where it drops down to just above 2300rpm at 100km/h on the freeway if ease on the accelerator...

3000rpm @ 100km/hr as well.

and apparently the CVT has a 7th gear or something, if you've been going 100 for long enough it will automatically go there...

3k rpm @ 100kph here too

hmm well i guess its normal for manual jazz's to go up to 3000rpm on 100km

Yes 100% normal unless you have mess around with the gears or final drive.

yeah i think its normal cos when i use plain auto, it idles at a lower rev (1500) but when i use the tiptronic it idles at a higher rev (2000)

The CVT doesn't have 7 gears. The 7 gears that the car potray to have is just manipulated electronically. On the jazz's auto, it only has 4 mechanical gears

You were doing well until the "4 mechanical gears" part...it runs a CVT box which actually is just one gear that has the ability to constantly vary....theoretically, CVT boxes have an infinite number of ratios

You are right. The CVT has an infinite number of ratios. However the Jazz in the states comes with 5 speed auto. I don't know whether if it's CVT or not, but read the spec sheet of the following website.

http://hondanews.com/CatID2150?mid=2006010735878&mime=asc

It states that the 5 speed auto comes with 5 different sets of ratios.

thats only for 1.3 mate.....1.5 is 7 speed CVT bro.... ;)

Both 1.3 and 1.5 autos are CVT...

and in regards to the original post, I've tried doing 100km/h in both 7 speed mode and the normal mode. The 7 speed mode will sit around 2800 - 3000 rpm @ 100km/h and in the normal auto mode, it'll be somewhere around 2300 - 2400 rpm. Therefore it should mean that the auto is more fuel economical am i right?

Yeah marginally. Point something of a litre per 100km difference.

only if you drive on the freeway alot, but normal everyday driving the manual would be slightly more fuel economical :)
