What is the best RPM to shift at for fuel economy while not sacrificing too much torque/power?

What is the best RPM to shift at for a bit of sporting fun?

  ;) ;) :p :p

Anywhere below redline ?

Its difficult to say, since 4 cylinder cars don't have much torque, with my v8 i can stay under 1500rpm and save fuel, but with my friends Civic i gotta rev to at least 2500 before it starts moving . Try and stay under 2500-3000 ? I don't go there while its warming up and i guess u save petrol driving nice N slow =)

Read your owner's manual. There's a table in there that tells you at what speed you should shift to optimise performance and economy.

I have a 97 CD5 Manual, and i try to shift at about 2-3k rpm, But the main this is the throttle, have it on full throttle then ur gonna go through alot more petrol then having it on half throttle. I read that some where on here. As soon as i find where it is then i'll post the link.

It's not just at what rpm you shift -- it's very much about how much you put your foot to the floor when you move off. Accelerating harder uses more fuel.

Anyone with an 06 Euro can have lots of fun watching their instantaneous fuel consumption on the gauge :)

^^ How high is the instantaneous fuel consumption on yours? Yours is a 6MT?

well... the instantaneous fuel indicator in our 06 euro is always greater than 30l/100km when taking off... but then cruising this thing it will stay at about 6-8 range...
i think the best way is to make up to ur desire speed ASAP and ofcourse try to do it without vtecing... :D

I could be wrong, but the instantaneous fuel use gauge seems to be connected to the fuel tank itself rather than the engine -- so sometimes as the fuel swirls around the tank your fuel usage reading seems to change.

I've been doing a fair mixture of driving while running in the engine (1000 km oil change next Friday!) and on average I'm changing at just under 4000 (it just seems to rev comfortably to that point without even feeling like its doing any work). According to the computer, my average use is hovering around 9.1-9.2.

In fact, if I hadn't seen it actually change over time, the cynical side of me would have thought the chip was deliberately programmed to show Honda's official figure for the car -- which is 9.1!

Just don't push the foot the floor and just drive normally with no over revving.

When i went to canberra for summernats i got 750km out of a tank of fuel (mobil synergy 8000) in the euro! i had cruise control on the whole time & it's a 6sp. I was pretty amazed since the aircon was on about half of the time and i had a total of four people in the car with a boot full of lugage & had 19 inch wheels on.

Made it all the way from Melbourne to Canberra easy on one tank!

A good purring along is a 4500 rpm shift, but i can lazy around at 3000 rpm max. Otherwise make that b**tch howl and have some fun!

I get 8l per 100 at approx 120kph in 110km area trips and 9.5l per 100km in town driven enthusiastically. Im on 18x7 speedy lites standard manual. Noextra weight :)

If you are not racing and want utmost fuel economy, shift at 2500rpm for 1st to 2nd, 2000rpm for every other gear except 5th to 6th where you do 2500rpm.

Otherwise, shifting at 3000-3500rpm should be adequate.
