Hey i do alot of freeway driving, i have recently acquired a Jazz from my parents who have now gone overseas to live. So ive been giving the prelude a rest for a while and driving the Jazz. Anyway, ive noticed at just before 120km/h the car makes a whuring noise, kinda like wind going through the wheels, but when i take the car to 125 it stops. Does anyone know wat im talking about?

Not that i speed alot anyway, im just curious y it does this at a certain rev!

mine used to do it at 80kmh, and changed the tyres and now its gone? i thought it was a wheel bearing at first.

Try unscrewing your aerial and see if the noise is still there...

Mine makes that noise at a certain speed which must be near its harmonic frequency... i think in mine it starts at around 118 and stops somewhere around 125...

When i do a long drive I change the aerial to a smaller unit that doesnt wobble.

My Jazz has no problems yet. But my Civic has got front wheel bearing noise, different to the tyre noise I could hear when going over coarse bitumen. I'm quite sure the front wheel bearing is due for replacement. It's an expensive repair (bearings cost about $100? each wheel) and require a special tool for removal and installation. Loath to try the sledge hammer approach.

I thought that wheel bearings will cause the droning noise at all speeds, so i am not sure if your problem is the wheel bearings.

I may be totally wrong but check your tyre pressure and wheel alignment.

its just the tyres making the noise... next time get better tyres or tyres with low road noise.

My civic used to make a strange whiring noise at around 120, turned out to be a section of rubber around the windcreen vibrating in the turbulance.. Try a asection of wide masking tape over the window rubbers and see if the noise goes away, never know, sometimes when you wash the car things get caught under them or the rubber lifts slightly.

hang on guys, call me stupid but i think its because its where VTEC engages. As it seems to happen exactly on 3500 RPM (118km/h)! And because im cruising rather than accelerating past this rev range its more noticeable.

what can you really do at the end of the day and if you really were a cop and someone knows your identity you would be a non-cop after comments like that

With regards to the topic if you engaged your clutch does the noise dissapear?
