yeah so my car had done 123000 clutch went 3 days after having a major service - found a great new mechanic - hondworld in oakleigh.

so it turns out that when i got my last service - the mechanic thrashed my car and ****ed the clutch which is why it died.

so what would you guys do in my situation? i think i basically got ripped off cos im a girl.

i was also told that my cv boots would need replacing cos they were split but that they would last til my next service - found out today that they were completely wrecked and could have caused me major damage.

so yeah, any advice on how i should handle the last mechanic?

how do you know he thrashed your car?

maybe your clutch hasnt been changed from factory?

^^a mechanic knows his stuff. why else would your clutch die unless its poorly driven or thrashed.

Common sense, how many mechanics do you know that would thrash a 1992 honda "breeze"...

Don't think you will be able to do anything with your last mechanic, just found I a good mechanic and stay with it.
but on avg a manual clutch gets pretty worn at around 100,000kms
your shocks, timing belts and other rubber items getting pretty worn around the same time too. Is just normal wear and tear.

Have your car change CV before? since your car have done already 123000kms
might as well go for a new or a recondition CV which will cost you from $150-$200
(recommand get new since there usually is a 2yr warranty on it).

That's a big call from your new mechanic. His the one that sounds dodgy to me, if he told you that.

erm.. you'd done over 100,000kms and clutch died.. that's fairly-normal.. remember even though your car may still look pretty new and sporty, it's at least 11 years old now.. clutch may have been damaged by yourself or a previous owner by driving with their left foot leaning on the clutch, dodgy shift technique etc..

your old mech was right about the cv boots.. they werent damaged at your 'next service' but the boots were dead.. that's what he said would happen that they'd need to be replaced at your next service or they'll die..

sounds to me liek a case of the 'new' mechanic bagging-out on your old one which is even more common than a mechanic over-charging for his service ;)

see i dont know much about cars which is why i come here - hmmm does it make any more sense to you guys if i say that my previous mechanic was kmart auto?
i was told they were dodgy but went on the recommendation of my dad.

i was also just going by what was said in another thread - that the clutch shouldnt die at 123000ks...and it was the original clutch

also got the cvs changed today - in the report from the old mech i was told they were worn but when i saw them today they were torn

thanks for all your help though :)

When you say your clutch "died"... is this the news the mechanic told you, or were you unable to drive???

unable to drive properly - when it happened there was a strong burning smell, car was stalling all over the place.
got a friend who was a mechanic to look at it and was told my clutch plate had slipped but he wasnt sure how much work it would need to be done on it.

how long was the clutch not driving properly? if it was for the entire time when you got the car back from service, then yes, wouldnt be suprised he had done it...

were you driving 3-days stalling everywhere?

If it was then id say something has come loose inside there, might even be loose crank-pulley (you said you had major service - timing belt?), i've had this before, absolutely roots your car... Clutch spring loses tension as well.

Ok, Did you feel loss in power before it died? As in you would press the accelerator and it would feel like it didnt want to move?

The smell might have been because you were using the clutch a little too much due to lack of power...

the clutch was feeling fine til i had it serviced after that it had no power, i mean its 1.3 so it has nothing anyway but this more far more noticeable - and since having a new one put in the difference is huge - far more tension and grip - up until today it had nothing - no spring

but yeah after the service it was running very rough - not what you would expect

Call him up, ask him if he put some tension in the spring, and then if he says no, ask him why after your service, your clutch was thrashed... if they admit it over the phone, laugh and tell them you just reccorded it, blackmail them.

Probably only way you can do anything... because he can say you came in like that, especially since the car has done 130k's

Hondworld is not the best, there are alot of young ppl now working there.
I wouldn't comment anymore on it, everyone have there own opinions.

Which area do you live in I can sent you to a realiable mechanic.
Just PM me.

hondworld seems like the ones that are being dodgy to make a call like that

yeah the hardest thing is finding a mechanic or workshop you can TRUST !! they might be the best big HP 'tuner' in your state.. they might be your uncle's next door neighbour's brother.. but that doesnt mean anything when it comes to ACTUALLY fixing your car not to mention the BILL.

but yeah you're doing the right thing by posting in here - not afraid to ask etc = thumbs up !!

a clutch has a big variation in life. my dad's old datsun changed its clutch at 230,000km

and talking to my 1st manual instructor he said he changed his clutch in his instruction vehicle at 45,000km

it depends on how u drive it. what sorta load u put on the clutch and how long has it been spent on teaching how to drive manual. like perhaps the old owner taught their son or daughter how to drive manual in the car and burnt the clutch.

a clutch doesnt go from normal to undriveable in a day or 2. i got vibrations in my clutch right now and im guessing theres prolly still 20,000km left in it before it starts slipping. the mechanic would've had to sit on a hill and clutch ride ur car for a few hrs to get it from perfectly driveable to cant clutch in.

mechanics aren't very nice ppl when the customer is female as well

I've just joined this site because I had an experience with 'HondWorld/HondaWorld' today and thought I would share it with you..... I have read the forum rules about libel/defamation etc and say the following, bearing that in mind.

My wife has a '90 prelude ... the drivers seatbelt stalk won't release. I rang Hondworld and was told they had one and that it would cost $40 (ripoff, but anyway). My wife went down there and got it ... she was charged $40 + GST = $44. When she told me I rang Hondworld out of principle - $4 is no big deal, maybe - but when someone tells me the cost is $40 thats what I expect to pay. If that excludes GST then I expect to be told so. Anyway, I spoke to 'Spiro' and, reasonably politely, told him I wasn't happy about it. He launched into a tirade of abuse and called me a 'tight-arse f&cking banana head' and generally slagged me off then hung up. I rang back wanting to speak to 'Spiros' boss ... guess who answers the phone? Guess who is the boss, apparently? Anyway he followed up with another tirade of irrational, threatening and obscene abuse during which he offered me $100 as well as a refund of the money if I was game to 'bring my balls in a wheelbarrow' and go down there. Now obviously I don't expect him to make good with the $100, but I AM going back there for a refund of my $44. I guess I will find out if Spiro is as tough in person as he talks over the phone......

His mad rant included stuff about what my job was, who I voted for and a whole lot of personal insults that I won't go into. Anyway, basically he has threatened me and insulted me because I have the 'nerve' to give him some feedback on his accidental or deliberate deception. Imlachs in Clayton told me the stalk was $44 inc GST ... i should have just gone there but they weren't sure it was the right one. At least they were polite, helpful and straight up. After I have got my refund from Spiro I'll be going straight round there.

Based on this experience I would advise anyone not to go within cooee of Hondworld... whether its for parts or cough*service*cough (that must be a joke!!!)

'Spiro' if you happen to read this, 'sue me' .... you can't, because libel has to be untrue. I feel sorry for anyone who works for you, or is your customer.

I went back there, I got my money back. It was worth all the trouble just to make sure that those pr*cks didn't get a red cent from me. The woman in the office is Ok tho.... Spiro is a primitive thug and his offsider is a fat ugly gutless tur&d. Only my opinion of course. 'Hondworld' .... Goodbaaaah!!!
Thats all I got to say, too.

Cheers.
