I recently bought a k and n pod filter for my 99 civic cxi. The mechanic guy says it might not be worth it putting it in cos it will take in hot air and prolly damage my engine or something. What do u guys think?
should of just got a panel filter
cars gonna be slow both ways... might as we as get a pod to make it sound a bit better

Completely and utterly pointless - congrats on wasting your money :)
I tested setups extensively on my EF9, Results are as follows:
Pod filter = 4KW loss ATW (summer's day).
CAI = .3KW gain ATW (no other mods) could have just been the test run.
Finer Filter custom made reusable insert .2KW gain ATW.
Pods are for ricers - might as well hook the intake to a heater for all the use you get from one drawing in hot air from the engine bay.
Rule of thumb with Hondas:
Insert into stock airbox = best stock/exhaust mods.
CAI replacing stock box = best with Cams/Header/Exhaust
Pod open to engine bay = best on a FSM Nikki - at least there you have a shit concept on a shit car.

if you cant/dont want to return it
install it and make a custom heat sheild to block out as much of the hot air from the engine as possible and install a direct air feed pipe from your front bar to suck cool*er* air in...

If you can shield it from the heat, is good.
but for normal everyday use I recommand a Panel Filter.

thx guys. I dun think ill return it. The pod i bought was just small enuf to fit in the box but the lid is not high enuf to cover the pod up so im thinking of modding the lid a bit so it shields the pod from engine heat and still getting the cold air that the panel filter got. Hopefully wont cost me much.
