I've got an amp that does 5600 watts, 2400 watts, 1200 watts, 600 watts, 400 watts and I can get an amp that does well over 10k watts. All are used for stereo comps for SPL and SQ! So if it's insane power/sound quality you want go U.S. Amps! If it's cheap power go Audiobahn, Pioneer, Fosgayte, Alpine, Directed, etc.! They only sound as good as what you put in to them. If you have a cheap set of RCA's and run them close to power lines then it will sound bad. All the other parts in the signal line make a difference too. As for how much power is enough, I always say, "You can always turn it down but you can't always turn it up!" If the sub is rated for 500 watts rms you can do at least twice that, and with the proper box 3-4 times rms. So if you have 2 500 watt rms, dual 2 ohm coils / sub then you can do a .5 ohm mono amp @ 2000 watts, 1 ohm 2 channel amp @ 2000 watts, 2 1 ohm mono amps @ 1000 watts each, even 4 2 ohm mono amps @ 500 watts. The choices are endless, only money and preference holds you back.

We tend to recommend somewhere between 800 and 1200 continous (12v @ 4ohm) for running a single high quality subwoofer such as the Diamond TDX12 or Image Dynamics IDMAX.

thanks for that, i dont think i need that much power, i was thinkin more like 250-300wrms. im not planing on doin any comps or anthing anytime soon. will 300wrms go alright?

Depends on the sub/s. What are you planing on getting?

yup 300 is ample. its enough for loud listening volumes. a amp n stereo isnt like a lightswitch (on or off). there is such a thing called volume control, soo lower volume = lower power. its not like u turn ur system on n 'BANG!', 300rms is there! (if u got a 300rms amp)

for normal 'loud' listening volumes u probly only need to feed ur sub 100rms or thereabouts. so 300 i believe will b plenty for u. i mean, its not like ur gonna use 300rms daily

it also depends on wat sub if it will go 'alright'. a ID IDMAX will sound sweeter than a Pioneer 306c if both are fed 300rms but wateva sub u have, im sure ull b happy with the sound.

wat sub??

it's a clarion SRW1283 DVC in a sealed box. that can handle 300wrms it says. i have it running in my room off a house amp that has about 120wrms i think but i want more bass.

well i got a totalt of 1900rms in my car i think thats just enough lol. 300rms from a diamond audiod 4 channel running my splits and alphasonik pma600 pushing up to 1600rms. i scored both amps for 1k second hand soo if u keep ur eyes open u can get some awsome gear for good prices

of course u wanted more bass, we all do :p
now, i dunno how big ur room is but i assume ur room has alot more volume then ur cars cabin space soo 140rms will sound louder in ur car than ur room. i still think 300rms will be enough for u once its in ur car tho

the clarion SRW1283 i believe is a 4ohm dvc sub. did u wanna get a 4chan to run speakers n ur sub or power ur sub off a mono?? i suggest getting a monoblock for it. decent monos that will provide adequate power to ur sub start at around $400 retail. how r u planning to wire it?? if parrallel (to get a 2ohm load), off the top of my head, some amps that offer around 300rms@2ohm are:
. Alpine m350 (350@2)
. Coustic 800db (400@2)
. JL e1400D
with a 300ish rms sub, these would b on my shortlist if i wanted a decent amp for power and id prefer these over that pioneer amp u showed

then there is - as suggested - jaycar

depends on how much ur willing to spend really

How much will any of them set me back, that pioneer one is 430 but 280 on ebay. i want to get a monoblock to power it, then later on i will get another for speakers.my room is pretty big,u can hear the bass from a couple of houses away, but i liek SQ more than SPL i think.
wich would be better to hook it up, 2ohm or 4?

i got my m350 for $300 but it retails for $399
the coustic goes for around $450, depends which place
the above prices r from a couple months ago so dunno if theyre lower or the same atm
cant rememba the RRP of the JL
jaycar...depends which one but their 400rms@4, 700rms@2 monoblock goes for $399 RRP. im pretty sure they had other monoblocks options tho but i cant find any details

if ur buying off ebay, y not look for the 1st 3 amps i suggested. each have better build quality, SQ, etc. personally, if i found em at $300 or less on ebay id take it over the pioneer

since uve got a dvc 4ohm sub, u can only hook it up for either a 2ohm or 8ohm load.

thats an awesome price, i'd go for the others over the pioneer anyday if they had roughly the same price, i jus looked on ebay but they dont have any of them one u said. i spoke to a guy from autobarn and he said if u wired it up in 8ohm most amps will see 4 ohms and thereforer will be running at 4ohms, is this true?

I jus found the Jl amp for 479$ it says it retails for 698$. would i have any probs running 2ohm, with heat and all that just with a monoblock if it says 2ohm capable?

arverson
23-01-2006, 10:24 PM
well if it can handle a 2ohm load, then u wont have any problems

id b more worried about setting the gains right so u dont feed ur sub 500@2ohm

ok thanks, im so confused on wich amp to get, knowing my luck il spend money gettin one and then find a better one for the same price or the amp wont be anygood or something:(
Is there any point getting a good amp like JL or alpine with a clarion sub, will there be alot better SQ or what, compared to say(pioneer)

arverson
23-01-2006, 10:50 PM
sorry bout the JL being 700ish, i thought it wudve been more like 500ish

anyway, of course get a good amp. u dont want it to fail n have to replace it in the near future. getting something good means that it will last u years. as the saying goes, do it right the 1st time n all is good.. think thats how it goes

haha, yeh thats cool, im having strong thoughts on the alpine one u suggested. i found a couple (new and used) for 200-300. what do u rekon bout that price. i think an ebay one is 249 buy it now, with warrenty. what do u think of this price

arverson
24-01-2006, 01:38 PM
yer 200-300 is wat most ppl sell em for 2nd hand. if u get the m350, i expect u wouldnt want more power. if u do, then its not only the amp but also the sub isnt good enuff for u (in that case u'd have to double the budget to get a significant upgrade, but probably isnt a option)

thats a really good amp for ur sub i've got the 2ch one running my 15" fusion f-serious and its really good, one flaw with the peioneer amps is dat the lowpass filter on them is preset and u can hear abit of vocals out of ur sub. more than 800wrms into a good sub is crazy u'll get hearing impairement i usually dont have my system turned up all the way its too much bass for me i get nausea when i listen for long perods of time at loud volumes (or maybe im gettin too old).
p.s i'd pay an extra $50 and get it from a store here not on ebay cause even tho they say "we're an australian business, u get australian warranty" the goods are imported from america...
