hi, i'm in the market for a car and round the 7 and a half grand mark. i've just been looking online and have seen this car for sale a few times.
link: http://www.drive.com.au/used_cars/honda/civic/sydney/detail.aspx?id=2560993&pg=1&pp=14&d=0&nv=1
it's a 93 model civic si, with a few mods like lowered suspension, rims and exhaust. was wondering whether it would be a wise decision to purchase something that was already modified, as i'm wary that it might have been driven quite hard.
also, in terms of civics, is there a lot of difference in terms of Breeze, GL, Gli, Si, and Vti?
thanks in advance for any advice you might have

There sure is. The 'i' signifies "Injected". Hence the models without the 'i' are not EFI.
Have a look through the sticky in this forum for more info.

are you serious? so theres not much power between the gli and si?
if the KMs are genuine and the car is in top condition then yea consider it, but remember its a 13 year old car now man

hmm there seems to be equal support for the vti as much as the si.
i think i'll have to keep looking, as huynh said.
i'm still leaning towards an eg hatch of some variety but there are other options as well.
thanks for all the help dudes!

Manufacturers power figures are almost always rated at the flywheel :p

That is true, but the Si/Vti has more power than the EK civics (unless you increase your budget and want to go for a Vti-r or Vti Coupe

Imo, its all about how many k's its done and the service history. If its done 80,000kms and serviced every 5000, including a timing belt change, then thats not such a bad deal  . But if its done >150, 000kms with sketchy service books. I'd be a little wary :thumbdwn:

btw as long as it has a consistant service history then there shouldnt be too much to worry about apart from the normal minor issues (dizzy , driveshafts , gearbox etc)

yeah it's like a macca's meal isn't it, spend a bit more and upgrade :D
but i prefer the shape of the eg, and i think it's a bit easier to find 'clean' egs than eks. yeah the car's just gonna be used as a practical everyday car, i would've just put rims and lowered suspension on.

Hows it goin' mate?
most cars would be thrashed hard or not if they have modifications of any sort.
I went to that link & I've got some advice..
My first car was a `94 Honda Civic Hatch VTEC exactly the same color as yours. It had momo steering wheel, razo gear knob, exhaust.. etc. & 140,000km on the clock for $6900. I sold it for $8,200 You'd be amazed by what you get when you just be patient.
I reckon PATIENCE is the virtue to buying a good car that you like. Everyone has their own opinions & xit.. But yeah....
Look, recently I bought my `96 Civic Sedan VTi :honda: for $9500 with 47,000kmz man!! Now low kms & full serv. history was what I was looking for. The interior / exterior is absolutely imac as well as the engine bay, (another thing i wanted). It had factory tint & alarm as well. It was a good deal for me & I didn't have to wait long for it (2 weeks afta i sold my Celica GT4-previous car)
Just keep looking man..be patient.. If a good deal comes--> take it..
otherwise keep waiting dude!!
GOOD LUCK. ALL THE BEST MATE!!

xcwizit; that VERY true patients .. be patient and u will find a great buy fo ya moneys
don't rush into buying a car when u see a car that u like the looks only and the right price for ya .. i thought about buying this car for a while seeing as i only had 4 g's to play around with .. this civic had high kms' (250,000) but it had the service books.. and had a really bad condition paint on the roof .. but i thought about it for a while and i always wanted to do a b18c itr engine conversion and im mates with a panel beater soo i brought it and currently saving 3.5k for the itr half cut and friends doing it for me and the guys from the panel beaters sed it will cost only few hundred to respray but i have a feeling i could it myself seeing as i got all the equipement @ home and seen it done MILLIONS of times... haha wells yeah just good luck on ur future car ..
tell us when u get ur car=]

it may have had more power when it was made but because its older and prolly has done more kms i reckon a lot more power has lost. so really the 2 would be around the same ATWKW
