hey, is there anything i shoudl be aware of for an import crx, is insurance thru the roof, its a 1988 model, so does it come with b16a, or the same as the aussie delivered engines, it has come up at a really sweet price, is there any thing else i should be aware of, coz a crx with a backseat is really tempting, because the only reason i didnt want it b4 was becoz it didnt have one, any help would be apreciated :D
biggest thing to check besides general mechanical issues is rust.
Remember it is a old car and generally the japs dont look after their old cheap cars etc. So there is a high chance of that. I have also heard of many stories of imported CR-X's being rusted out etc.
Insurance for me is the same as a aussie CR-X, except my excess is like 200 more (through just cars).
I dont think the 88's come with b16a's.. i think 89 was the first year for them? Easy to check it anyway, see if the valve cover has VTEC on it/valve cover design/vtec selnoid etc.
And seeming as though it is a 'sweet price' i would say it has a D16 engine.
Also i was the same, i thought errr maybe not a crx because there are only 2 seats. But at compliance you get a little sticker (not too sure about NSW) saying the people in the back cant be over like 35kg or 80cm or something. So unless u have a lot of midget friends i doubt the rear seats can be used legally. They are damn small anyway, i am 173cm and i hit the roof with my head if i sit in them.
Also because honda are knobs.. well around my area anyway, they wont be too happy trying to get parts for you or servicing it because it is an 'import'.. well maybe a d series they might be happier... but isnt the AUDM vs JDM d's different in some areas? mainly gearbox.. but anyway
also make sure u get all the paper work.. again i dont know much about NSW import laws, but in vic you would want all the roadworthy papers, rego papers, and ENGINEERS CERTIFICATE.. make sure it has the correct import plates or whatever in the engine bay.. Basically make sure it is legally drivable, there are some dodgey people around

dont worry about it, i went to chek it out today it ws in shit condition, so anyone thinkin of chekin it out in nsw and the y got the ad of autotrader.com.au, dont bother, it was a b16a, im assuming becoz it said, DOHC VTEC on the cover, so shit happens but i think im leaning prelude way now anyway

in response to your pm yesiamaturk:
You say the next one you are looking at is a 89 model. Just because it is a 89 model and import does not mean it will have a b16a. Si Crx's have a d16 and SiR's have a b16. Import 2nd gen crx's had both engines depending on model.
So basically if it is an Si it will be d16 and SiR will be b16. Check the tappet cover for the words VTEC etc etc.
Also ask the owner if it is registered or can be etc etc or what needs to be done. If it is cheap it may not even be able to be registered legally. There is often a bit of paperwork to do and they should provide papers to show if it is registerable in NSW (i dont know what NSW needs but in VIC you need roadworthy and an engineers certificate for the specific car). Decent SiR's go for 10.5-13k, so if it is real cheap be paranoid.
Things to look out for, as said previous is rust.
Check door hinges, boot, areas on roof, under carpet if u can, under the car etc.. do it throughly (if u find some minor shit u can bargin with this).
Now with mechanical i guess just check the general things, such as oil level and colour, radiator fluid and see if it is milky (milky white is bad). Start it up and check for smoke, rev it check for smoke. Check for bad noises.
Rev the car out and see if the rev's jump up high, which if it does it shows a slipping/worn clutch. Change gears at high RPM and if u hear a crunch then most likely a synchro in the gearbox is gone (expensive fix).
I hear CRX's often have powersteering leaks so check that, as well as other things.
Just check it over like any othe car
