I think it means you've got air in your brake lines, I think some simple googling and searching will find you the answer. I'm not 100% sure on mine.

I think MoonSha is right. There's air in the lines. Check the fluid levels and if you don't know how or feel comfortable bleeding them yourself take it in. I bet there's a DIY if not I can get you one later.

it should be your master cylinder, wheck the brake booster to see if some of the paint is getting eaten away

brake fluid eats paint

My master cylinder died last week, what it did was to begin by braking normaly, then after a while it would stop fine but the pedal would go to the floor when pressure was applied for a while, then it got worse, had to pump cause the pedal would go to the floor and only slow the car down, not lock em up, I bet your master cylinder is beginning to fail, if its air in the lines you should be concerned about how it got there, either a leak at a wheel or low level in the master cylinder. Either way somethings wrong, if theres air in the lines thers a cause for it being there that you will need to find a repair, but if the pedal starts getting weaker and weaker then its gonna be the fluid escaping around the piston in the master cylinder, fluid blowby so to speak, and the brakes will eventually fail due to the master cylinder not being able to apply pressure to the brakes.
