what kind of HU you got? and how many preouts? with your budget, i'll say give Jaycar a try, they are budget stuff but with reasonably good quality product or go down to jb as you can always bargain for a good price there.

good luck

your HU should have at least 2 sets of preouts, so you may want a 4 ch amp to power your fronts and sub, i heard alot of people were saying that the VDO splits produce quite decent quality sound from other forum, so it worth give it a try.

what you mean by audiobahn front?
anyway 1k sounds like a good deal, but u need to pay extra for installation + sub enclosure + wiring about $300-$400

hmmm $1000MAX for fronts, rears, amp/s & sub eh?? does sound a bit tight but is possible. realise tho, at this pricepoint u'd b limited to entry level gear but im sure ull b happy with the following.

for the budget, i suggest splitting it up like this:

. $300-400 for 6.5" SPLITS (focal 165V1, morel pulse 6, Hertz HSK165, Boston Acoustics S60, MB Quart DCE216, digital designs DDC6.5)
. not sure wat size ur rear speakers r but if theyre 6.5" or smaller, NO more than $150. if theyre 6x9s, get jaycar Precision Response coaxials ($140)
. for the budget i suggest 1 decent sub so: pioneer 306c - which can b had for $100ish. if u can stretch the budget a little more than u can get a Alpine type-s 12" ($280RRP) or digital designs 2012 ($299RRP)
. monoblock amp: alpine m350($399RRP) , coustic 800db($450ish), jaycar($399RRP)

these r just the system components n all that comes at just over 1G. but if u got the splits, sub n amp at the same car audio specialist (as jb/strathy wont have the gear i mentioned), ud probly get a package deal thats at/under 1G.

i would suggest a 2 or 4chan amp for speakers but budget isnt enuff. jus run ur speakers/splits off the HU for the time being. u can always buy a amp for ur speakers in the future when finiance allows. UNLESS u wanted a 4chan amp to run splits&sub..

also, have u thought bout additional costs like wiring ($50-100), sub box (<$100 prefab, $150-300 custom made - depending on type of box ur after) & installation - if needed($250+)??

You could always save up or buy some parts now. Like the mids/highs and a amp for them. Then get the sub and sub amp later. I got my Audiobahns off Ebay a while ago so if you want look there. If you can't find someone local or that will ship to you from the U.S. let me know, I have a friend down there that I ship to every once in a while and I can just put it in with his stuff.

yup i agree with slow96gsr, do ur system in steps

for me, with ur budget, id start off with splits+4chan amp - & rears if u can afford them, theyre not a priority

then after ive saved up a bit more, get a sub and either run it off the 4chan amp along with the splits (leave the rears running off the HU) OR get a monoblock to run ur sub (leaving the 4chan for ur splits+rears)

g-stick, do u know wat model audibahn amp & jl sub are?? how much is he offering specifically for each?? also, audiobahn fronts?? to my knowledge, audiobahn dont make speakers

well i found the card he gave me and this is wat is on it-
JL W1
Audiobahn S004 or 5004 something like that
VDO 5" splits
Audiobahn 6.5
4ch kit
box

i might do it in steps, sub lastly

all up was approx 1 G with wires then 200 for install

ohhh my bad. yer just had a look at the audiobahn site n they have plenty of speakers, i stand corrected :o

sumthin to think about g-stick is; if u were offered a amp, sub & 2 pairs of splits for 1G then u'd probly b gettin audiobahns low end splits. vdo... well i cant comment on these as i havnt had experience with em.

my suggestion was $500 for a decent sub+amp, leaving $500 for speakers. but bcus its betta to focus/spend more on fronts than rears id say split the remaining 500 as $350ish for front splits, $150 for rears coaxils - as said in my 1st post.

basically, if u followed my suggestion then u'd get no betta value out of ur budget

Tell him you want the Audiobahn AS65V 6.5” 3-Way Speakers for the fronts and rears if they are 6.5" back there. I think he's trying to get you in to the ABC-5002 (There isn't a 5004 unless he's talking amps!) which is a component set from 2004/05 that will require a lot of custom work. There’s no reason for you not to use a coaxial speaker in the front doors. It will keep the cost down too. In the rear you can fit a 2 way component set but not a 3 way unless it’s in the rear deck of a coupe or sedan. The hatchbacks have their speakers in a panel in the rear sides and a 3 way won’t fit without custom work.

Here’s a look at what The ABC-6003 set looks like in the front of my car. As you can see a coax set will fit the entire speaker in the door but the component set will take custom kicks or door panel modifications. http://www.strathlan.com/TEK/images/Stereo/frontdoor.jpg

Here’s what’s in the rear where a coax set is most defiantly the best idea! These are the ABC-5002 from Audiobahn. The tweeter is in a bracket held on by a bolt to the plastic panel.

Not a cheap set and yes I know I need to clean her up. Just had those from when I was taking pics for insurance reasons.

If you have a budget why don't you buy 2nd hand....a lot of the time you can pick up items that are virtually new....my entire set up is 2nd hand except for front splits (ie. 2 subs, 2 amps, hu, stacker)...I even used industrial electrical wire for my amp power wire.
