Just wondering if there's any ef9 masters out there.
My ef9 ignition coil s*** itself the other day so I went to honda doncaster and ordered another one. Came in the next day but it was the wrong one. So to order another one I had to give the dude the VIN and the engine number for some gay reason. Called me the next day to tell me the numbers don't match or some crap so I gave him the ef9 number and I'm yet to here the score on that. My point is what the hell is the deal with these cars. I don't have a VIN plate on my firewall, the VIN has been stamped into the strut housing thing on the left side of the car with freakin die stamps. Is this normal for imports or whatever? And when it comes to motors why the hell do they have b16a1's and 2's cause the first time I ordered the part I told him it was the 1 so why did the wrong ignition coil come in? Are there more than 1 different types of b16a1's or something? Doesn't that mean they should call them b16a1a's and b16a1b's or something? Also is the ef9 also known as the SIR which means it came with a B16 cause I've got papers for my car saying the motor used to be a d15b and the current motor came out of a 92 CRX (it's got the DOHC VTEC stickers on the doors aswell). How can I tell? Please help. Recomend me a good wrecker or something too thanks. Cheers.
P.S. In case you didn't realise I'm pretty pissed about the whole situation cause my cars immobile, and I don't have my own emergency car.

Forget genuine if the cars has had an engine swap...

As your in Vic, take your dizzy out and go to any Burson Automotive Store(yellow pages), ask them to look in their ACA book and match up what dizzy you have. They will then get you in a NEW coil for much less than a Honda one. ACA offer warranty on all their parts too.

Do I need to take the dizzy out or can I just show the ignition coil?

Their will be a number stamped into one of the legs that attaches the dizzy to the head. That number is what the ACA book references. As long as you have that, they can determine what dizzy you have and what coil you need.

Hi mate, sorry to hear of your situation.
Setanta, johnnypollet and myself have original EF9's - maybe some others on here but not many real one's. As far as I'm aware there's only one form of B16A (first generation) and these have the same distributor with two green gangly plugs - different distributor to B16A2's.....which have grey plugs.

As per advice above look at getting your dizzy reconditioned or try and track down a secondhandy through Ozhonda (wanted to buy) a wreckers or ebay:

just thought i would ad that as other's have said your car has a b16a (aka b16a1).
And no aussie honda came with that engine, hence you cant just goto honda and get a part because they dont have the specific engine on record. They are not to happy with import owners either.

The metail vin thingo would have also been added when the car was engineered here.
I think i might start an EF8/9 specific thread for parts etc
