hey guys i read around a bit and some have said its quite safe to run low boost 6psi on stock internals, injectors, no fuel management what so ever, stock brakes sufficient if not going hard out. so whys it so expensive to get some cheap boost? i just want some power outta my d when needed as itz a daily driver.

because cheap things never turn out cheap in the long run!!!
why would ya wanna spend lets say $1250 on a small T25 when u can spend $2000 on a T28gt.
why not wait and get the better turbo so later on when u want more power you dont have to buy a brand new unit??
as for management, why wouldnt you use something that can be tuned theres just so much potential with it.

What im triyng to tell u is why would you run a turbo set up to achive very little power, when it can be done by staying N/A.

i dont have alot of to spend money on my car. thats the main thing.. im just looking for a bit more power with reliability in tact. coz my d16y4 kinda sucks budget maybe 1500 if possible. im not gonna track it or nething just need something to satisfy me.

how many extra kw if i just chuck a turbo u rekon? 88kw atm :thumbdwn:

i mean i could save for a b16 or b18 conversion which be good enuff for me i rekon

but the cheaper the better. i dont work for my car.. it works for mE!

1500 wont get u a reliable setup i think sorry mate.
if u save a bit u might be able to get ur self a b16a.
look around mate ur in melbourne, have you thought of maybe a b18b i imaging they would be more in your budget???
defenetly feel the difference between a d16y to a b18b. and then later on get a nice header and intake.
if your on a budget u wont be disapointed

there's no way of running boost without some sort of fuel management. This is just asking for trouble.

6psi on stock injectors, stock fuel pump, stock FPR, stock Management = BANG

you can run on stock internals just fine

you can not run without any fuel management though

if you're capable of doing stuff yourself, and junkyard diving, there's no reason you can't set yourself up with a very capable, perfectly reliable turbo set up for a low cost. It will, however, take A LOT of research on your part. Fuel management is the number 1 thing to focus on, especially if you want the engine to last.

kool nice input guys. i was jus askin coz there was a garrett t25 turbo on ebay "excellent condition" went for $157 or so.. seemed cheap. but yeh if i cant make it cheap i'll jus save for b18c1

how much it's going to cost is going to come down a lot to how much you're willing to do yourself. If you're doing everything yourself, you can do it really cheap.

you cant run stock Engine managment system with out mods, as as soon as the MAP see positive pressure in the manifold, then MIL and fault codes in the ECU

ECU-MAN i was told the MAP could read up to 11psi of boost.

ECU-MAN i was told the MAP could read up to 11psi of boost.
the map sensor itself can, but the stock ecu freaks out at anything over 1 psi or so unless it's modified.

ECU-MAN i was told the MAP could read up to 11psi of boost.

The stock Map sensor is capable of reading up to 11.7psi of boost.
The ECU code however will trow a code/MIL when it sees over a certain amount of possitive pressure, regardless of what the Max pressure the factory sensor.

Even thought youl have flashing lights, the car will still perform to its fullest or will it go into some kind of safety mode??

it will go into safety mode.
Thats why the americans use the check valves + FPR trick. Cheap and nasty

only the dumbass americans that don't care about their cars do that. Those of us that actually want their car to last use some of the real fuel management options out there.
