Hey guys, thought i would make a thread containing part information and numbers for the imported EF8 CR-X and EF9 Civic. This is because honda is not too helpful when trying to find specific parts because they dont have these cars on record etc. Also to promote discussion of these models.

If you have part numbers or other info, please post them and i will add that info to this post.

PART DESCRIPTION | PART NUMBER
Engine Oil- Standard Honda oil FEO 10w-30w | B1766
Oil filter- Standard Honda oil filter | 15400PLC004
Sump plug washer - Standard honda washer | 94109-14000
Radiator Coolant - Honda radiator coolant type 2 | B1801
Gearbox fluid - MTF Plus gearbox fluid 75-80w | B1766

Thermostat - From b16a2? | 19301-p08-316 (needs confirmation, there are multiple themostats for b16a2)
Sump/oil pan gasket - From b16a2 | 11251-P30-004
Fuel filter - From 90 model concerto? | 16010-SH3-K51 (needs confirmation)

WORKSHOP MANUAL INFORMATION
CR-X workshop manual can be accessed from www.honda.co.uk by going to the owners section. It also containts a vtec supplement which is relevant to EF8's and therefore EF9's. Also the 98 model integra manual may contain other useful information relating to bseries engines.

Are you able to cook up a list of what they came standard with and what was optional? What Australian delivered Hondas also came with a b16a1?

Dxs
29-01-2006, 09:24 AM
I guess i could as well as others.. This thread could get quite detailed.

The thing is though, no australian model came with a b16a (b16a1). They are all A2's. Hence it is difficult to know what part is needed because some are from b16a2's some b18a's even some other parts share with d series cars. So it would be good to have a reference. But anyway, go start a thread in the intro's/gallery about your car :p

here are some aftermarket equivalents:
B16A Thermostat ~ Tridon Equivalent is TT242-170 which is the same as Honda one listed above.
Oil Filter ~ Ryco, Cooper etc is a Z79a
Yes, the fuel filter listed above is also correct

curious..

those workshop manuals are pretty good, it is a bit vague when it comes to areas of the engine so sometimes a manual from a different b series car is needed.. i would say it would be extremely hard to find a paper/hard copy..... got a fast printer?

Speaking of which, where's the speed sensor? Cause I can't see where it is looking from the top and I haven't bothered looking underneath yet because I'd have to do some car shuffling to jack the car up. Thanks

And I'll take up that request for the intro.

the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located on the top..
i tried to take a pic of it but there is too many pipes in the way + it's too early :thumbdwn:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid100/pd973efb0f147ae783583ceb71703bbaf/f9e74b82.jpg
i believe that maybe a picture of a b16a vss though /\

the sensor is a cable one opposed to an electric one

acongdon
01-02-2006, 12:30 PM
Is that picture from a EE8/9 (European)? The EF8 (Japanese) has the VSS in the gearbox whereas the European model retains the the VSS in the cluster as on Australian models.

Also pictured is the variable speed power steering which I thought was only available on Integras?

As I recall, the manuals referred to earlier are for the European models and don't include a lot of info...
for example the climate control?

can anyone confirm with a picture of their vss?

gnx1987
01-02-2006, 09:37 PM
Speaking of cable speedos, I've been looking all over the firewall to see where it comes out so I can follow it,but can't find it. Also on that pic, at the bottom of it, is that the starter motor? Just an enlightenment as to why I want to change my speed sensor, every now and again the speedo wants to just drop out like it stops reading the speed. This will happen when ever it wants, a bit more often when it's cold. And the cable's not gripping cause it doesn't flick, it just drops if you get what I mean.

Have owned my EF9 for almost 6 years now and you don't need half the manual stuff - it's common sense.

Just get a new VSS from a NZ wrecker - it took me 10 minutes to replace mine.

i having the same problem with my vss. I will be driving and all of the sudden it drops to 0km sometimes it pops straight back up to speed other times it will stay down for a whil and just today it didnt come back up! How do i fix?

gnx1987

The VSS is bolted into the top of the gearbox, from memory it's held in with two bolts. I had the same problems with my speedo. The only way to fix it is to replace the VSS, they cost $85 from hondworld in melbourne, I have a spare one that works that you can have for $50 plus postage. PM me

Only need to take out the one screw to pull out the VSS. And don't over tighten it when you do it up......it WILL crack :)

Anyone know an Australian equivalent for the fuel tank sender with the low fuel light?
For example is there an Integra with the with the fuel light and similar tank sender?

I replaced my VSS with a later model one. The gearing is the same but the later model
has the plug integrated into the sensor, no wiring tail. I had to change the plug on the
loom (as I recall?).

SlobberGoat
31-03-2006, 08:23 PM
Bah.
I've never heard a wrecker say
"Shit yeah mate. We got truck loads of these...."
(cause then they can't extort large sums of cash from you on the pretense that it's the only one in existance)

They always say
[sucking air through teeth]
"Yeah mate, these are pretty rare, but I'll sell you this one here for eleventy billion dollars." <as he points down to a clapped out D15B4>
:(

Don't listen to the wreckers.

A weird light popped up when i was warming up my ef9 in the panel beater's today. Its the light under the petrol light. looks similiar to the symbol of a Resisistor on a circuit board diagram, and squigly lines coming up from it. when i look at it reminds me of a radiator or something. Does anyone know wat this warning light is?

Just wondering what things people have got on they're ef8/9s that might not be standard options or if anyone knows what the options were. I believe climate control was an option. Anyone confirm if the following is not standard?

-electric retractable electric mirrors?
-electric windows
-electric sunroof
-rear discs

Anything I may have missed?

aznpsuazn
10-09-2006, 12:02 AM
electric retractable mirrors - they do come on ef9s i know this for sure. so does the windows and rear discs. some also have abs which is f* expensive to repair.

Setanta
10-09-2006, 07:58 AM
Manual winders for the windows was the option on EF9s, but only on the stripped down "race off the factory floor" varient.

Electric Sunroof was an option but most seem fitted with it.
Rear disks and oversized front disks standard.
Electric folding mirrors (not just power adjustable) = incredibly rare - so rare that I can't find them in my catalogue for the EF9, the EF8 CRX lists them though.

Climate control = option
Double DIN centre console = option
sigh - must convert my scans of the EF9 and EE9 catalogs as I CBD posting the rest :P

ef8 crx stuff

the ef8 rear and front engine mounts are from the same DC2- found out when my HASPORT mounts didnt fit.

fuel filter isnt specific to the ef8.. forgot where its from tho

front brake pads are from the DA integra

Will post the catalogs once I find a hosting spot - the scans are horrendously huge in .tiff format. 40meg a pic. I'm too lazy to convert them all, especially as my EF9 is languishing in the garage and I'm enjoying 1300cc of GTi go-cart fun.

With reference to the question I asked above, after doing some research discovered the below:

Honda 92800-20000 (Bolt, Drain plug 20mm) (FILL PLUG)
Honda 94109-20000 (Washer, Drain Plug 20mm) (FILL PLUG)
Honda 94109-14000 (Washer, Drain Plug 14mm) (DRAIN PLUG)

Honda 54110-SH3-003 (Change Lever Ball Seat)
Number 9 in diagram

Honda 54115-SH3-000 (Change Lever Dust Seal B)
Number 13 in diagram

Honda 54111-SH3-000 (Change Ball Holder)
Number 10 in diagram

Honda 46505-SA5-000 (Pedal Stopper Pad)
Rubber piece that turns off brake lights by resting against the switch.

Found these off a honda parts website, then enquired with torque honda part's desk to confirm with my EF9, placed the order and now waiting for them to come in from Japan/Melbourne. Refurbing a few old bit's and pieces, as the gear stick rubber seals/holders seem to have worn out over the last 17 years. Getting it all back to OEM freshness.
