Will it be ok to run a sub wired in 8ohm from the head unit, the sub would take place of a speaker, if so can head units be bridged? 1 neg and 1 pos from 2 speakers

You need an amp to have enough power for a sub.

yeh i know, but i wanted to know if it would work until i get an amp, but dont matter now, is there any way to get 1 dual voice coil sub(4ohm+4ohm) to run at 4 ohm or can it only be 2 and 8

I don't know of any headunits that can have their channels bridged, and even if they did, it would probably only make 50WRMS at 8 ohm....

And no, the sub can only be run at 2 or 8 ohm.. It's advisable not to run only a single coil as it changes the characteristics of the sub.

You would probably be looking at minimum $200 to get a 2x80WRMS amp from Jaycar setup, but I'd be saving some more to get a nicer amp to power that sub.

so if an amp can have 380wrms at 4 ohm what would it have at 8ohm. ive been told it would be more than half of 4ohm!any ideas?

89civic, sounds like uve ruled out getting a m350, thought u were really interestd innit :p

wat amp is this '380@4'?? y would u consider it (since uve got a sub that can only handle a load of 2 or 8 - as mentioned)?? if i were u id look for another amp that provides enuff power @ 2ohm, not 8 - unless this '380@4' amp can handle a 2ohm load as well. if u wantd to have a sub run @4ohm, then u shouldve bort the dvc 2ohm version..

on topic, if i were u i wouldnt have ANY sub run off the HU. thats just askin to f#%k up ur HU. just run ur speakers off it and WHEN u get a amp for ur sub, add the sub into the mix.

i think its been mentioned b4 but just do it in steps, for ur and ur audio gears sake

i like the m350 alot but i dont know how long it wil take to get it as i dont have much cash right now, i guess il see whats amps r round for how much i have at the time, would 2ohm be alot better than 8, sound wise not power.wil it play deeper or anything

no prob, theres no need to rush things. i wasnt tryna push u into doing that. ALOT of ppl can take 6+ months to build up their system so take ur time.

nope it wont play deeper. theres many reasons y id rather run ur sub at 2ohm not 8ohm, but i cbf gettin technical & write up a long ass post too :p
put simply, its about power

trust me on this, when cash allows/ur other priorities r taken care of, run ur sub at 2ohm

ok thanks man, the guy at autobarn said it would play deeper at 4ohm than 8 but u cant even get the sub in 4 ohm unless there is 2 of em, they dont know much down there:)

maybe he ment 'deeper' cus amps will give more power @4 instead of @8, as will @2 give more power than @4.

think bout it, if u got a amp thats, say 300@4, then @8 u mite get 100rms, mayb even less. i assume ud want more power than 100ish.

even if u wired ur sub to see a 8ohm load, ur wasting the amps potential (the most power u can get out of the amp) bcus most amps these days can handle a 2ohm load, and all amps these days r 4ohm capable. y give a 8ohm load wen u can give a 4? likewise, y - if the amp allows - give a 4ohm load wen u can give 2? specially since uve got a dvc 4ohm sub.

wat did the autobarn guy mean by 'deeper'?? lower bass?? louder bass?? set ur xovers right & u can still get LOWER bass (@8 or @2), u just wont b able to get it very loud @8 cus the amp will give more power at lower loads (@ 4 or@2). and, like i said, since uve got a dvc 4ohm sub, thats y i said give ur sub a 2ohm load

bleh, think ive blabbled on enuff. hope i didnt confuse u or any1 with this post :p

dont know what he ment by 'deeper' but i told him that my sub was wired for an 8ohm load and he looked all confused so i had to get a sub and show him how i wired it, and he jus said most amps will see a 4ohm load if was still wired like that, but i found the alpine amp for 150 that has had 4hours use and says new cond' so il see how i go with that if he wants to post!thanks for all the help
