I am on the lookout for a DC5R. I have seen a couple i like but they are supercharged. Now this is all good and better value for money because of the extra power; Also my isurance is only $100 more with a supercharger so thats no problem.
Now onto my main question, i was getting a bit off topic. I would like to know what other issues you would face with having a supercharged DC5R.

1. Does it cost more to service?
2. Would it void a warranty?
3. Would it cause engine and internals problems?
4. Any other bad things associated with a supercharger.

Also one more question. I would want to spend about $6000 on mods + installation what would be the best parts to get. I want a bit more power and i want to hear the thing really open up! lol I live in Sydney if that helps.

thanks

Check if the supercharger is a Comptech one. Comptech makes SC kits for the RSX-S and maybe also the DC5R. Latest news is that they have released kits for the TSX (Accord Euro).

Comptech tuning is carried out as well, so there are few durability issues as well as the boost is very conservative.

4. Below boost, you lose a few percent of your output power through the SC pully. Once the predetermined RPM is reached and the SC engages (via clutch or bypass), you get more power than stock. The Comptech for the TSX actually uses a roots blower + bypass, so there is little pumping loss, and below the activation point of 3000rpm, it makes the exact same power as stock. And once above 3000rpm, it drinks more petrol.

Super Chargers don't create as much power as a turbo so for the Internals to be hurt with a S.C. it takes a lot. Even if the belt breaks you're ok. I wouldn't worry about the internals unless you are running rich or lean. Then you will need fuel management of some kind. If there are any check engine lights have them look up the codes before buying. Make sure the car is clean and the belts aren't cracked or torn. Other than that, drive it and see if you like it.

3. Its useful to get an oil temp. gauge in the car (off topic Defi gauges are HOT! lol) Anyways it helps you monitor when it isn't a good time to hammer it or when it is. In the long run for the condition of your car ...it helps a tad.

Btw. contact | www.belperformance.com.au | they know alot about R's and tell them your budget they'll let you know what you can do with 6k ontop of the supercharger and how much more kw your looking at btw. they are located in Regeants Park NSW so that is good.
