hey hey..

i was going to put this under G-Sticks' thread but didnt want to 'hijack' it...

i dont really have a lot of experience with tyres (but i have researched a lot recently! :) ) and was just wondering what you peepz in-the-know thought about $170 a corner for B/Stone G3's.

For my DC2R...size of 195/55/15.

thinking of Toyo T1R's as well...i dunno why..just appeals to me...and supposedly is aright..? haha..

any help would be appreciated...

Apparently buying OEM size aftermarket tyres are expensive, so ppl go for a different profile as they're cheaper. However, this will make ya speedo go off a tiny bit cos your overall wheel diameter changes.

Anyway, I bought GIII's couple yrs ago in 195/50/15 for $135 per corner from Bridgestone Tyre Centre. I've heard some other ppl have got them for as low as $120 per tyre. They're a pretty good tyre, and are affordable too.

it because of your profile..

205/50/15 and 195/55/15 are more expensive.. alot more in most cases

195/55/15 T1R are cheaper than 205/50/15.
195/55/15 G3's are really hard to find...

BTW - It shouldnt affect your speedo as 205/50 and 195/55 have the same diameter.

195/50 is always the cheapest.. its ok for eg's but seem alittle small for an ek..

Im currrently after the same tyres..

But am learning towards T1r as they are slightly cheaper with OEM DC2r/EK4 profile..
Quoted so far.

T1r- $130-135 195/55/15
$180 205/50/15

G3 - $125 195/50/15
$?? 205/50/15

oh really? didnt know oem a/market was more expensive...thanks for that.

Yeah..one of my friends has mentioned T1R's can be found for cheaper...but when comparing T1r vs G3....are they similar? Probably...i think G3 has good wet performance as well...unsure of T1R..if someone can shed light.. :)

That's a bit expensive for G3's... Where did you get the quote from? I was quoted $550 for a set of G3's which is about $140 a corner. In the end I got Yokohama C.Drives for $660 which is $165 a corner...

How are C-Drives..
there isnt much info on them..

are they ranked above A539?

I have read the T1-r are better than the GIII's, but it could be jsut American BS

DJIntegr8 - the quote for the G3's were they for 195/55? or 195/50?

You can tweak with this website.

Also, you will find as said above its about profile.

I just got a new set of Hankook K104's and they are really a pretty good tyre. For 165$ fitted and balanced in 225/45/17 you cant really go wrong. Trust me when i say they are good tyres

My quote for G3's were in 195/55 profile, I also got quoted at $135 for 195/50 profile at Donnellans ($125 at Bob Janes).. 205/50 was pushing $180 I think. Weird how the Bridgestone Tyre Centre is more expensive.

Anyhow, the C.Drives are pretty awesome, however I had cheap Sava tyres on before these. In the dry, the rubber feels different, a lot more grip. Possibly softer compound; however I feel that the sidewalls are a bit soft which helps with comfort, but does let down a bit in hard cornering. They grip heaps, but I can feel the sidewalls folding under. Going down to a 50 profile here might help, you won't lose too much comfort with the C.Drives, and it'll corner a bit better. One thing to watch out for is load ratings, I had to change from 50 to 55 because the 50's were illegal. Wet weather grip is great, feels much safer than before. I haven't had any other tyres on this car, but compared to the directional tyres on our Accord, they are much quieter.

Lots of people are saying that they take about 500kms to wear off the release compound and then they come good - this is true. Another thing to think about is that G3's are quite a few years old. Newer tyres are silica based rubber, so better fuel consumption and wear.

Oh yeah, another reason I got the C.Drives was for a $50 BP Fuel voucher :D

I've also got Yoko C.Drives on my car, 225/50/16, Not having compared them to anything else on my car it's hard to tell if they are good or not, I've dropped the clutch from 6k a few times and they seem to hook up well with minimal wheel spin. They are fairly quiet at highway speeds but my car revs at 3.5k when going 100 in 6th so that's probably why you cant hear the tyres. In the wet they are a bit hairy though.

I had G3s on my last car 195/55/15 i think they were, they were a huge improvement over what i previously had, no tire squeel or anything!

I've read that Goodyear eagly F1s are awesome in the wet but not that good in the dry? But I'm not sure what kind of driving you want to do with your car...

yeah..i'm also like that...i ended up getting the G3's when this thread started but its a bit hard to say how they are as these are my first set of tyres. Obviously better then what were on there before......

i agree on the tyre squeal...and wet performance is great...not that i have the balls to push my car in the wet...something i avoid.
