they hold your crank so it wont spin when you do up the bolt without a rattle gun.

From the pic it looks like you need to put a socket in the hole and HOLD it steady yourself.

Now, if any of you have ever removed a crank pulley bolt before (without a rattle-gun) then you'll know that it takes a rather large breaker bar.

I think this tool is definately a last resort. Supercheap has such cheap rattleguns which will do the job.

Options in order:

1) Rattle-Gun
2) Leave axels in and stand on brakes which breaking with large bar
3) That tool

After you use a rattle-gun, you'll never EVER go back to using normal tools again. EVER!

:D

and brakes were not strong enough either for some reason

If you can apply more torque with your arms, than your brakes can hold, I don't think you should be driving your car on the road... lol

yeh the brakes needed bleeding and the tyres are dodge.

hence method 2 not working.

Tool is used for both removal and refitting the crank bolt..bolt MUST be torqued to specific tightness to stop excessive pressure on crankshaft thrust bearings(if too tight) and to stop excessive movement between pulley/cambelt sprockets/oil pump.
