What is the minimum tread of a tyre that will last one track day? I have 1mm left on my rear Yoko ES100s (on a FWD) - will they be able to last?

yeah will last if ur willing to come back with chicken wire
if u onli got 1mm left might as well get new tyres anyways, my tip for wakefield... invest in tyres!!!

I doubt they will let you on unless your tyres are roadworthy

Saying that, a slick is different to a tyre, as it is clearly ment to be a slick. A slick-made-by-wear street tyre is not ment to be slick

a slick also has depth maker holes when no holes no race
but seriouly they wont let you on the track. 1f you want a decent set of tyres for the track cheap get a set of new road tyres or good condition second hand one an go an have them buffed they take of how many mm you like to reveal fresh soft rubber.
in HQ racing we have to run a control tyre so every tyre got 3mm taken off it except ones we left as wets

The Yoko ES100 are just UHP tyres, not semi-slicks. Forgot to mention that it's 1mm until the wear indicators (ie roadworthy) and its only on the rears. The fronts will be replaced with brand new Toyo T-1R's. Then afterwards, I'll move the Toyo's to the rear, and put the another 2 new Toyo's on the front.

Does that sound ok or will that cause some kind of handling unbalance?

plain an simple they wont let you out the track is harder on tyres than you think.
we would get about 30 laps out of street tyres at Eastern Creak.
so basically your tyres are goin to be below the makers after a few laps they will not allow it

I am in the same boat right now with my RE55's (one of the pairs is extremely close to touching the tread indicator, and the other is on the indicators) and will not be buying another set of semi slicks. Sounds like my current tyres will only be good enough for practise days track days at Winton :(

I will probably change them anyway since they'd be unroadworthy after the trackday if I used them - still need to drive home!

so how much would the track rip up new tyres?

I have done around 8 track days on a brand new set of RE55's, and they are now unroadworthy.

were they used on the street as well as track?

depends how hard you drive really id expect the same tyre last longer on a lighter honda thats not driven as hard ours were also missing 3mm of tread before wed even bolt em on. we had to use RE88.
plus after passing the cams licence test you know how you should be driving. All they wana see is that you can do a few laps on full limit tyre sqeale every corner but not loose it. an when you drive like that it kills tyres

any "Street" tyre on the track will heat up and quickly become useless.
So , having 1mm of tread left you are just asking to slide all over the place - dont do it ! Get some tyres with abit of beef , so atleast if u come off onto the grass there is SOME tread to grip the grass n dirt and not let u slide off into a barrier
