H22a conversion

hey, was just wondering if anyone in here has done a h22a conversion into a civ? im looking at putting one in my eg4 towards the end of the year and just starting a lil' research.
What you guys think of this transplant?

It is doable - prolle not recomended. Better off with a B20/16a conversion.

EGs are lightweight, so it is in your favour to keep it that way.

However, it has been done, not much harder than any other conversion. There is a Twin Turbo H22a Powered EG civic in Queensland....

Dont be fooled by the fact that the front cuts are cheap. the conversion isn't. Theres a lot of work involved as i'm sure your aware. If your after a drag car You really can;t go wrong, a mate of mine is doing it but his dad is friends with an engerneer who said he'll make sure its all legal and sign it off for him. If you've got the cash to spend on it (8K+ i think a few guys said i'd be looking at way back when i wanted to do it) and you just want a drag car then its a good as direction to head in. have fun, pics when its in!!! and time slips when its run.

mcchook u seem to make an H series sound like its the heaviest thing around
i heard that a H series is only 50kgs heavier than b18c .. b20 i would not know
but the more torque that comes from the engine .. makes up for that ..

if u want to go track go the b18c ..or b20vtec wotever..
or if u want to drag
go the H22A .. not saying that you cant fix up the minor weight problems with some sussy tweaking .. for tack use/abuse..

yeah i've heard of issues about it being heavier at the front and that i'd lose cornering speed!, but for me this isnt an issue, its not a track car ... i just want sumthin with a bit of vtech goodness that i can burn ppl off and give them a bit of a suprise! :D
i dont really want to go a b18 as its quite a common conversion now ( plus b18's are relativley hard to get) as for the b20... ive been in an ek with a b20vtech turbo coversion! that is a quick car... and im chasing similar performance!
i know this conversion (h22a) is popular in the states and it is very do-able
if ive read correctly all i will lose is ac and power steering
i can do most of the work at home all bar from the wiring , which i have a mate of mine who is an auto electrician!!
i think i can do the conversion for easily under $5k engineered and all

It isn't worth losing your Air Conditioning, let alone power steering...

That B20turbo EK is a seriously hardcore car, an H22a takes a bit of work to achieve that sort of power... like $10-12K. But still achievable in NA mode

b16 would be the easiest option.... h22 is possible, but as people have said, weight distribution is a problem.

ive lived without powersteering on my old car....you get used to it and as for ac.....who cares... just wind down the windows!!!! heheeh yes it seems like the b16 is an easy way out, maybe turbz it or sumthin or even supercharge it ( which ive already got sitin' in my garage ). but yeah im just shoppin around atm so im definatley open for suggestions and im in no rush... as i sed i plan on doing the conversion towards the end of the year!

tofu is right, h22a is 50 kg heavier. engine tilts to the back of the motor, ie inside of the car, thats another big thing overlooked.

u might consider buying the hasport mount kits and other ones in the usa, made for this conversion. Turboing a b20 crvtec makes more power than an NA h22a, but for the money, a turbo h22a will eat that alive.

Things to consider from my experience is that the h22a is not as well supported in the aftermarket as the b series. Rebuilding a CRVTEC costs etc, id rather go H22a, again my own Humble opinion, as the h22a is a honda designed engine whilst the crvtec is not. Im not a fan of these hybrid motors for a few reasons that i wont go into.
