My Recaros + Red Key...

my dc2r got broken into the other day and my precious xxxxen recaros and xxxxen red key as well as my floor mats got stolen.

ive been looking around but how much do you guys think is reasonable for a pair of red recaros (2nd hand)??

also anyone know how much it cost to get a replacement red key you get wid your car?? can you even get a replacement?

ps. they even stole my shirt and jumper the cheap mo-foz..

yep i know many stupid factors on my beahalf...

i havent had the car very long thats why i left the red key and i didnt think anyone would actually steal it. if im not mistaken though im pretty sure you cant start the engine wid the red key it is only used to make copies but im prob wrong.

i have been too busy wid uni exams (finish tomorrow) and was gonna sort out insurance and everything this weekend, bad timing i guess.

i guess i am lucky my whole car is not missing though...there's something to be very thankful for...

red key is a memory key for the chip inside the black keys.
red key will only open the car doors, but will not start the car, as it only holds memory.
from my view red key should be replacable BUTTTT i highly doubt it.
new key and barels locking thingo from honda is 800.
means u get back 2 black keys and 1 red.
if i was you, replace the whole key set as that person(S) with the red key can still access your car.

Once you have lost your Red key, thats it.
Its all gone, you have to get a new barrel, new immobilizer, the whole works.
Or just go to lock smith and make coppies of your black key, its non genuine.
you can keep using but not get new genuine honda keys.
Its all tied into your immobilizer etc.

red jus means they can basically open the doors without haivng to break the glass this time.
so if i was you replace it.
my mate lost his immobiliser key, the black one and had to get it done for the civic. but yeah its 800 is what we paid if u shop around.

you can stop your seats getting ripped by changing all the mounting bolts to torx bits style bolts, any good nut and bolt shop will have the correct size, that will stop any dickhead with a 12 and 14mm spanner taking your seats, torx bits look like allen keys with a small bit in the middle, will only cost you about $30, bit late to tell you but

guys n girls...PLEASE beware of Maq. uni + centre....there is a massive amount of cars broken into/taken.

I dont knwo for sure but its very likely from those stupid kids at Ivanhoe place nearby (government housing).

Daytime is OK but plz dont park your car near there anytime at night for a long time ok ! ( for example during movies etc)

though with ya red key, they can still make a copy of it, and have access to your car as it holds the immoboliser magnet, and is used to create key copies. so like what the other guys have said, change the whole barrell, and the locks to the doors n boot - get a new red key and new black keys aswells

my R didnt come with a Red key, and im going through the log book tracking down every previous owner demanding my damn red key.

But yeah, 600, 800, its still a big sum of money for such a minor mistake

go out and get an immobolizer alarm straight away, so even if they have access to enter the car atlest its harder to steal it.
I would be worried if they have your rego number its pretty easy to find a friend that can look up rego addresses. Or if you had an addressed envelope in the car.
Just get a good alarm.

you dont have to buy new locks,

Honda do a kit with a Immobiliser ECU an Uncut RED key and 2 Uncut black keys, costs about $400, compared to the $800 to 1k for new lock package.

you then get the red and black keys cut to your exsisting keys code, then program in the new immo control unit to the ECU

if you want you can pay more and get the whole locks changed, but its cheeper to get your locks recoded and the new keys cut to suit a new code.

Hmm, my uncle's DC2R got broken into as welll last month. 2 red recaros, some Apexi controller and Type R mats. This occured in Fox Studio car park in broad daylight.

Yea but should make sure the alarm is installed somewhere that isn't accessible to snipe the wires.

My uncle's Type R had an alarm but the thieves opened the bonnet quickly and sniped the wires. Then they took it out and smashed it on the ground.

ahhh mate so sorry to hear. exact same thing happened to me in mid january while i was at work...
my main word of advice is, be careful regarding going through insurance company, because they wrote my dc2r off because theres sensors in the seats which control the airbags etc, and the fact brand new through honda they cost like $7k a seat.
may sound absurd, but thats whats happened :)

Damn shame! Just had my black recaros stolen this week & my DC2R was parked in my units secure "not" car park. I dont think it matters where you park your car so a warning for those who still have their nice recaros, get a good alarm installed!

I'm with NRMA & it looks like my excellent condition DC2R is going to be a write off as well :( . I've had it since new, last of the 2001 batch so its dissappointing. F..k.n thieves!

According to the tow truck driver he reckons to replace the seats is like $9k & thats if you can get them.

Maybe its the same gang/people who are going around doing this bad sh.t? I think I can still get my type R mats back if someone is interested in buying them...

I do see 2 nice hondas (an integra and something else :p *crap memory*) parked inside maq center at the back in a dark area on the orange level. at first i thought it was an easy target to break into, but i then noticed how small the gap is between the 2 cars and the wall surrounding the cars and id imagine it'd be impossible to take anything big eg recaros from the cars, smart thinking. maybe ill steal that parking spot next time =p

well if you got ANY copies of the keys, you're still ok just make a copy of it.. red key aint shiet really.. unless you lose black and red.

call this guy 0419 436 389 "Perfect Locksmiths" he hooked me up.. when my gf lost her BLACK keys, this guy does copies on black keys too.. he either programs it to you immobilser unit, or copies the chip thingo in your black key.

HONDA just over charges, ring around and find some locksmiths..

Mac Uni eh... that place must be getting worse. When I had my S14 whilst studying there someone did a hit & run. No note, no nothing!
If you have to park there. Park in corner with your mates. You might have to get to uni a bit earlier but hey at least your car might be safer. Just an idea for you...

if you like your car and it is in good condition why not just get insurance to buy you a set of bride seats or something thats a bit cheaper than genuine ones.
i haven;t been in the situaution but im sure i you kept demanding that they replace the seats they will eventually just replace them. at the end of the day you do pay the premium so you do have a bit of leverage with them.

I'm getting my trimmer to make up a bit of black fabric w/ elastic band so I could slip it over to cover the "steal me" recaro logo on my non OE SR3 seat. Might even get letters embroiled onto it so ppl think it's a Saas or Autotechnica cheapie.

I'm also looking into getting those bolts replaced with lockout type if they make it in that size, otherwise tamper proof torx head bolts/torx/allen key in that preference order would be a lot better than the 12mm bolts in the car atm.

I've seen a few ITR where the insurance companies replace them with the SR sport poverty pack seat where you can buy for $999 from Recaro agents. Basically the same seat but with cheap and nasty fabrics.

I'm sorry for your loss...I got my honda badges stolen in Macq uni b4, now I only park in places where there are lots of people walking past etc. That's by far the safest. Afterall, the alarm won't be useful if nobody's around to hear it right?

If you are going out to the city on Friday nights etc, try to park your car in front of a pub etc where there are heaps of people and security guards.

BTW, if you can get the mats back ( I think you can, ppl can get back lots of things like broken plates, grill, gear knob, mats etc from W/Os and the insurance company won't care), I will definitely be interested as my driver carpets are so worn now!

I go to Macq Uni too and just the other day a friend told me about a poor girl's GPS unit that got stolen. Her car was parked just behind the SAM building area where there's usually people walking past.

Apparently those thieves smashed her windscreen, stole the GPS unit in broad daylight and sped of in another car. Thankfully there were eyewitnesses who took note of the plate number, called the police and also left a note on the poor girl's car. I just hope those bastards get tracked down and locked up!

I had a pair of recaros sitting in my garage for sale which I posted up on the trading post. a few people rang and ask for my address to come have a look at them but never came. Then a few nights later, a couple of cars drove infront of my house at 3.30am and tried to barge open my garage door! lucky I was still awake at that time and turned all the lights on inside .. and they ran like dogs!

I can't believe these people who don't have regard for anything or any body! no morals at all ... lazy bastards can't work hard like everyone else to get what they want.

I'm looking into getting a DC2R right now ... but abit worried now as I do park on the street at work.
