right now i have a 15" sub in my boot....
i really like the bass its making and such... but its totally killing the performance of the car.... it weights like 40kg and makes the rear feels like its on one wheel.
any way i can still get the same bass and losing the sub?

get a 12" sub with ports on it. ports help with bass. wont be as nice but the sacrifices u have to make *sigh - "i wish i had a sub" *

^^^ that'll be 6-7kgs lighter with half the bass... not worth it imo, ur onli real option is to get a good set of 6x9s and pump some good power into them.

Firstly what type of sub is the 15", and is it ported?
Were the 2x12" ported? and what brand were they?
And are the boxes prefab? custom or own made?
It might not be sounding nice cause a 15" can go lower than the 12s, but that can be solved with proper tuning of the port. A 12 can sound nice if its the correct box.
and you cant get a 6x9 with the same bass, a sub can go wayyy lower than a 6x9.

What do u mean with half the bass? Are u saying that a 12 will not produce enough bass than a 15" or will not go loudeR?

remove interior and spare tyre make things even again :D
another option is to get a kicker solobaric 10", they require hardly any box at all, and can be plenty bassy and loud

Bigger sub = more bass = more weight
smaller sub = less bass = less weight
its a bit of a compramise but thats the only way.
Either that or get en engine swap and keep your 15!?!?!?

both, 12" sounds nothing like a 15", a 15" to a 12" swap is a downgrade, specially when the weight difference is like like 5kg, wont make a different on ur cars performance...
a sub and box wont push ur cars suspension down hes just over exhaggerating, if u track ur car then thats a diff story, in that case just take out the sub etc.. but for daily driving its totally not worth downgrading to a 12" to make ur car lighter, if u need bootspace then just get rid of it altogether and get some 6x9 or 7x10, u wont get the same bass but atleast u get some bass.
I'm pretty obssesed about my car's weight, or to be more exact the way it's distributed at the rear of the car.
When I got a sub box made up for my Merc C class I had the car weighed on a set of racing scales to see how the weight was distributed. We then placed the sub box on the LH side to even out the balance the best we could.
It was a bandpass 4th order enclosure with thin 9mm MDF with just enough reinforcements with MDF bracings and resin. The whole box was wrapped in Fibreglass, then covered with vinyl. The sub was a Kicker Comp VR 10".
I'm looking into getting a custom 12" box made for my EG Si, this time to be made out of 12mm MDF with FG reinforcements. Sub wise I'm leaning towards the JL W3 series as they weight only 5Kg which is pretty good for their performance. I intend to remove the sparewheel+tools under the floor ( about 10-12Kg est ) so I should be adding around 12-14Kg over the rear wheels of the car ( sub box+amps+wiring ). That sort of weight penalty can definately be felt in a car like the EG Si but bringing more weight towards the back of the car along with coilovers at a later date if I could afford it and the car corner weighted it should make it a very sweet handling car indeed.
Will post a thread when I get my stereo system installed guys.

i m not exagerating mate, i go around the same rountabouts going to and from work, when i had the sub out my rear doesn't skid, with sub in, the rear skids.
both subs are ported (ported mean there is a hole in the box rite)
2 x 12" were pioneer
the
1 x 15 is a cadence

It's all in the box. We can make an 8" sound as loud and as good as a 15". An 8" is easier to control and needs less power. If you build a better box you will be happier. I would do a 10" or a 12" and a ported/vented box and run about 300-400 watts. Do you have any sound damping material or anything? If you can cut down on road noise you need less bass and thus a smaller system. Look at the big picture and see what all you can do to make it more efficient. If you want a racecar you are not going to have a big system and vise versa.

Put 2 JL Audio 6" Subs in the rear panels. Use lots of dynamat. Bass at a very low weight. :)

You aren't going to get the same type of bass from 6x9's even if they're amplified as the bass you will get from a 15" sub.

make a new box out of fibreglass.. that will save some weight

ID 8" is like 5-8 pounds and a good fiberglass box is 3-6 pounds. My 15"s were 50 pounds each and the box was another 50 pounds. 6x9's and other mids aren't made for bass. Use a smaller sub and a box to fit and you will be fine.

Yes as slow96GSR said, its all in the box, and the driver you are using, a 12" can be as bassy as a 15", and can be louder at the same time.
There a people who can get an 8" and make it have more SPL than 2x10s, and a 12" more than 2x15". It's all the in box. The DD1008 which is an 8" woofer posted a 138.8DB.
So if u want the same bass, you'll need a sub, no 6x9 or 7x10 gonna do you any justice.
If you were going to use 6x9s, u might as well just get a 8" woofer put it in a smallish box.
Also if you don't want the rear to skid, cant u correct it with a thicker front sway bar?
And also do u have a thicker rear sway bar?
