hey fellas another question.
1. would an ITR final drive fit into my 98 civic vti-r
2. would there be any benifit to doing it acceleration wise? yes i know top speed is reduced but whos going to get there.
3. how hard is it to install
4. any thing else i need to know about it.

btw yess i have searched but found nothing.

What I heard only - You'd have to verify.

To put the ITR 4.785 in a stock B16 box will require some parts to be changed including some of the gears.

You might be better off buying an aftermarket FD set designed for the B16 box..

1) IMO you'd be better off sourcing a whole ITR box
2) a great benifit, i've read that civics that could't keep up with ITRs with standard box, can now keep up with ITRs (not sure how much truth is in this claim though?)
3) straight fit
4) upgrade clutch and flywheel while your at it

3) straight fit

I doubt its a straight fit.

If you look at the ATS FD 4.9 Set for the ITR box, they say that if installing in a stock b16 box, you will need to change the first gear to a different one where otherwise, it'll be a straight it for the ITR only.

This leads me to think that it is different.

At least a couple points are certain...
1) Buy an ITR gearbox or
2) Get a FD kit designed for the B16A gearbox.

agreed

if your going to go the the trouble of changing the final drive, you may aswell get the 4.9 ATS one.

Personally i'd go for the ITR box

Otherwise,

Follow this thread on opinions about changing the FD
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29356&page=1&pp=12&highlight=final+drive

I went from a 4.2 to a 4.7 final drive (For some strange reason, everyone calls it a CUSCO unit but the brand's some Carismo or something, but its Japanese)

First takes on that, definately revs higher for any given speed, coming down the pacific highway, i can more or less use 4th gear in place of 3rd.

Overall, baring the higher revs, it does feel better. but hey, a 4.2 FD is really the shits..

You have to change your counter shaft and ring gear. Hardly a 'straight fit'.

Just the parts itself are close to 1K. Then you have to add labour.

when i said straight fit, i was refering to the ITR box, not just the final gear

OK my bad.

But yeah for the FD.....you basically have to crack your g/b open, pull out your countershaft and all the gears off it.

Then slide the gears onto the new countershaft. After that replace the ring gear on your differential.

And then re-assemble. Labout would be just as much as the parts I'd say.

So for a few grand more......you can get a ITR with a LSD however you don't know what condition the box would be in.......and you'll also have to pay for labour :)

+ 1 vote for just spending on actual ITR gearbox or similar. + LSD too :)

Another fan here of just switching to a ITR Box. thats what i will be doing.
there was one on sale here somewhere for only $1500.00 damn wish i had some money it would have been mine.
Anyways good luck with whatever you choose.

hehehe, yeah someone on here is selling a ITR box super cheap  ....

But yeah, the ITR box is an awsome upgrade and will indeed increase your acceleration with the FD and corning and launching with the LSD. I reckon pretty much the best performance mode to any B series.

ill recommed getting a ITR box rather then just the final gear.

ITR comes with LSD so thats another advantage.

It'll work out cheaper then just putting in the final drive .

GoodLuck
