as above last night i snapped my LSD unit in my box

I was launching in 1st gear hit vtec and then it just let loose
now the car want drive

I cant find much info on aftermarket lsd's

has anyone broken there LSD before?

should I get stock type R one as replacemnt or aftermarket?

what are the pros and cons of different LSD's?

not 100% of what box I got but its B series and cable clutch with factory LSD

i don't know about LSD, but i want recomend you to get aftermarket LSD.
such as spoon, mugen... etc... i think it is not that much differece between aftermarket and factory LSD. maybe it is good chance to up-grade the LSD.

if the problem truly is your LSD unit (are you 100% sure ? have u had the gearbox apart ? might be ur clutch has blown or driveshaft ?) anyway IMO id try to find a second hand ITR LSD ...then if not searh for a aftermarket LSD and then finally spend bigtime and grab a new ITR one :(

I thought that a car is driveable if the LSD is not working

Doesnt a damaged LSD just cease to function and acts like a standard open diff?

the car is drivable but barely
I can move it round on flat surfaces revving it hard and slowly moves
its not the clutch and definetly not the drive shafts

when in gear the car can be pushed around easily

i think you shattered your clutch plate, its still drivable because there is still friction (pressure plate ---> metalparts & rivets of plate ----> flywheel) you are describing the exact same symtoms i had when my exedy blew up.

Jack the front of the car up.

turn one wheel foward and see if the other goes the same direction to determain if lsd is still working.

try start the car up in 4th. if you can then its the clutch plate

time to pull the gearbox off - dont worry about researching LSD without knowing what it is you broke...

If it hasn't been changed its likely to be a Quaiffe LSD .
Apperently they are a very well engineered and strong unit.

well i have not noticed one tiny bit of smell when it broke or when i sit there in gear reving it still
i went and saw charlie at GPC and he says i broke the lsd and showed me one that was allready broken
in reverse the car makes a winny noise but in 1st doesnt
I can start the car in gear no problems

too much street racing?

i just jacked up ym car
the wheels spin freely
i know before one used to turn the other
so i guess this reinforces the fact that its my LSD right

most likley yes, but still id rip the box off and diagnose the problem properley.

I will take off the box before I buy anything
my clutch is less then 6000k's old

I actually blew it where you saw me last
the commodore wanted to have another go lastnight

my exedy blew after 3000kms.
its all on how you treat it? Did you have your flywheel machined when clutch was installed? Clutch shudder and high RPM changes = death.

Also take off the rubber grommet thingo on your gearbox around your clutch master cylinder, reach one or 2 fingers into your bellhousing and see if you can feel some fragments of clutch around.

i agree with KB. u probably broke the teeth off ur clutch. pull the flywheel inspection cover off and see if u can see bits of metal.

Depends on the type of LSD...my other car lost all drive when the LSD died.A shattered cv joint can also give you a very similar symptom or stripped splines on the driveshaft.

Wanna ask a question, Does Spoon, Mugen, Kaaz LSDs kind of maintenance free? I would consider Quaife although it's a bit $$$$$ but i trust it's quality

Dude, what Clutch you are using...3 puck or 5 puck or what?
and what type of LSD is that? Type R or some aftermarket LSD?

If you are using a Type R LSD, i don't think you can broke it that easily..same goes with those clutched aftermarket LSD...

The only thing i can think of is that, you might just need to change your clutch, of one of the screw has fail you somewhere in the flywheel..or may be you've screwed your pressure plate big time...

well problem is solved now
fixed the gearbox today
We got an ITR LSd and made it fit
the ITR has 55 splins where as mine had 44
so we had to change over the main spine shaft and ect to suit
putting it back in the car tomorrow
and going exedy heavy duty button
