yes - you will lose acceleration.

....unless the bigger rims are lighter, and have more of their mass centred closer to the center (read: no)....

You'll find with 17" rims at low speeds it will pick up slightly slower, and moderate speeds it will pick up a fair bit and at high speeds your speed will get a rapid decrease when you take your foot off the throttle.

Personally i would stay with a good, lightweight set of 15" rims ... make them as wide as possible thought to get better traction [never looked into the sizing of rims so i don't know whether you can get 15x6 or 15x6.5 or something ... people tell me :D]

I have 17x7 alloys on mine ... not too bad be it probably would go better on the stockies ;)

*Points* What he said. You'll also find that if you do a very quick search of OH forums, you'll find at least 3 threads with plenty of info regarding this topic! :)

This is not true - The heavier rims have a greater inertia than lighter rims...hence they will retain their speed greater than lighter rims.

I have 15x6.5 had 15x7's... both have 195/55/15s I like them and so long as tyre pressure is high its good, but i think the money's better spent on 16s, since the weight increase is only minimal but theres a decrease in tyre weight. 16s will have less tyre roll. But even still I've never had too much roll. Anyone else?

15x7.....hoping to run 205/45

used to have 16x7 but now want something not as heavy!

and similar to you altho i am the pioneer - i am running 15x7 enkeis with fresh 195 grip to fear.

The smaller the wheel equals less rotational mass- lighter = better to be best in the class.

depends what you want, more street/performance probarbly go with 15/16's.... bit more showy 17/18s.... bigger size may slow you down just a little, but hardly noticeable :P

I have 17x7's on my EK and you can't really notice it that much.

17" x 7.5" 40series rubber front and back. BUt my car is more looks atm.

Think id prefer some much lighter 16's when i develop the power plant some more.

215/35/18 all round on my EK, this is bcoz, everybody wants to be a racer, so i decided to make my car a cruiser.

but, in any other application street/drag/twisties i'd go 17x7, dunno, depends wat you have in mind for your car... speed [racer], style [cruiser, show or rice] , sounds [db]

205/45/16 previously.. they looked good, but very uncomfortable
195/65/14 stock.. very smooth. and comfortable..
195/50/15 nice ride, bumpinesss is tolerable.!

Well sh*t everything my car is doing is lying to me then!!

+ the fact that a have fairly light alloys.

But besides that, it happens on my car and it also happens on my mates CRX Si with 18" Sideburns [chromies]

15x6.5 no complaints

17x7 , 205x40, seem to go alright, very bumpy with the lowered suspension but tolerable ;)

A lot of ride quality depends on your suspension as well. But generaly speaking for a Civic, optimum performance would be a 16inch setup and with 205/45/16.

205/45/17 with Michelin MXF Sport, only -ve is the tyres are bit noisy @ high speed ~ 100km/h+

should've got 16, ride would be smoother
but 17 are nicer to look at, so cant complain too much

well my EK vtir has 205/40R17 and i think the ride is smooth compared to two of my friends who have egs with 16s and 17s..

but im feeling the pain now that my wheels are apparently illegal.. MoFos RTA! hehe

but i guess personally if you like the look and feel then its all cool...

As for the deceleration thing.. check out the link below, shows you the difference and loss of speed for different wheels:

well let me see

ive had:

14" smooth quiet ride.. handling a bit floaty
16" ride OK.. handling good.. little noisy
17" ride OK.. handling heavier but good.. noisy..
18" ride bad  ...handling heavy.. noisy.. slow.. and rubbing..

still got to try 15" most peoples opinion is that its the best size overall.

Anyone know of any good, decent priced, 16" light weight racing rims ... ;) and anyone know of good rubber :P never looked into it, up until now i been all for the rice

And Nuttz with the noise factor, If you lessen the psi in the tyres then you will get a smoother / quieter ride with all rims. Factory standard PSI is about 26 or 27 or some crap, but its not the best for traction etc.

I run my tyres at 32psi for everyday, bit noisier but better traction ... and i need it with the shit Silverstones i have :P If i want to go out hooning or something, i pump em up to 42psi ... loud and beware of hitting gutters [i haven't done it but my mate did ... instant pop].

Ultra light 16" will cost $700+ (4kg), 5-6kg 16" can be had for $400+

As 16" is street legal I would go for a good 16" with 205/50 rubber. Cop's will generally pick on your wheels before anything else when they pull you over...

16" = 4kg?
that is tempting... I currently own bsa 16" with TIR fromt and craps on rear, best I had until now!
Weight is critical issue in hondas.
get lite ones and strip your interior!!! my striped CXI is faster then Ben's vti!! LOL!!!!!!!!!
17" enkei G-zero I had was bad.... bad ride quality, heavy as hell, and as "chi" mentioned, it need lot of caring to get it sparkling all the time.
I used to have G-zero with gunmetal front LOL!!
takes aprox. 2~3 days the turn chrome into gunmetal -_-;

you need to do some research on tyre pressures.
underinflation does NOT equal greater traction.
you should be at or slightly above the manufacturers maximum recommended rating (they usually give two; one for low speed driving, one for high speed), in order to maintain the largest contact patch and get better traction. whoever told you lower pressure = better traction obviously got confused between driving on sand and on the road.

back on topic, i have 15X6 civic vti-r rims, with 195/55 f/r on my da9, purely because there are a wider range of performance tyres available to fit these rims, unlike my stock 14' rims. imo, things above 16' on most hondas are pretty pointless. smaller rims means cheaper tyres, meaning you can get higher quality rubber at the price you would pay for average stuff on bigger rims.
