in the past 3 days i started to hear a scraping noise from the front of my car, inside the engine bay. It quickly got worse and now i am not willing to drive my baby. The noise is not internal in the motor, it is coming from around the belt pullies, i have also noticed some metal shavings on some parts around the pullies and a metal on metal smell. Nothing i can see is touching against the pullies tho. So i was up for any ideas on what the problem may be?
I have also heard that it may be a bearing in the pullie

If you have NRMA roadside assist, get them to do a quick diagnostic.
Or get a pro to come and hava look (or tow the car to them).

I recon you Air conditioning compressor is rooted.

failed bearing rubbing the pulley

you could always turn the crank with a breaker bar and see/listen for yourself where the sound is coming from

y dont u take the belt of the air con and see if the sound stops??
the usual scraching noise from pulleys means u need a new water pump but metal shavings dont usually come out so im all out of ideas

i wouldnt expect it to be the water pump as it has only just been replaced, but a mate said he had the same problem with his car once it ended up a belt was tightening and needed replacing and so did a pulley bearing.
As with the Aircon i have turned it on and off, it made no difference to the sound what so ever.

Yeah but the aircon belt is always spinning anyway so you probably wont notice any sound difference if the problem is on the engine side pulley.

But it could be a number of things so I would get it checked out proper.

speaking of which, I get a clicking noise at low RPM from around the same area (only started 2 days ago)...I hope I dont have the same problem lol.

otherwise its just your cv joint

EuroDude

Its definetely not my CV's since they are virtually new and it happens when the car is not moving.

Its definetely coming from the passenger side somewhere near the aircon/timing belt area. Its more like a random metal->metal click/tick which could mean some bearings have worn somewhere.

But anyway i'll look into it later, dont wanna steal ur thread.

could be a pulley bearring from an over tight belt and high revs..

OR

when i had my timing belt replaced the **competant** mecahnic forgot to re-sinstall the belt-guide (washer-like device) and then the belt slid half way off the cam-gears etc and was actually badly rubbing on the inside of the Valve cover and the Plastic Belt cover. this made noises similar to how you described yours.

Yay the bitch is working :)... damn i am lucky it lasted this long. the problem was the AC compressor pulley bearing.... Its nice to know the guys at honda maitland cant put a washer on a pulley right (Thats what would have ****ed it a washer was in the wrong place) My bearing was MAC****ed.
pics soon

Air-con tensioner pulley, has a metal bearing inside that is common to fail. Remove the A/C belt and the nosie should stop.

It is possible to pull apart the pulley and the bearing is like $20 from most auto part stores.

EDIT: Did not read the second page before psoting

I think mine is gone too, is it easy to replace? Or do you need to remove the timing belt etc..?

it wasnt too easy a 3 hour job for a 10 dollar part and a cramped engine bay. Timiing belt stays on.

ergh, i'll get my mech to do it (if it indeed faulty)
