Yep...ALT for sure....But check your fuses first... :D
The light just means your battery isn't being recharged...

if car starts fine as usual its the alt, the brushes inside needs to be replaced, about 70 bucks or so but better to get reco saves you the time and hassle of messing around.

can any maerchanic do it pretty much? or do i need a specific merchanic to reco it? (i kno a few merchanics)

Well I had the same problem. It sucks balls. I think reco is the best option. Most mechanics send it away. It was awhile ago but I think it costs around 130 to get recon, but dont quote me on that. Also try not to drive at night and turn your cd/radio off if you you want to prolong the inevitable..lol

it should be rapaird or exchaged same day
remove it your self its not that hard
you cand rive around untill your battery dies in the ass and has no more balls to crank the car over
you want be able to clutch your car if you got no alternator

Cold Fusion

Yeah I wonder why they never came with that light but then again you know you're low on fuel once you go round a turn too fast and the car starts to surge on fuel.

The real problem with mine was that the Green plug (round) at the back of the alternator was playing up, every time I moved it abouts the current flow would decrease and be real iregular depending in which direction I held it, I tried first by changing the plug from my old wirring harness that came with my new engine and still no go! I was like WTF? so I changed the complete Alternator for the one that also came with the new engine and ever since then its been ok.

I suggest to try and see if the same hapens whe n you have a play around with that green plug if it is then might have to clean it with some elec contact cleaner, and if that don't fix the problem then you might have to change the alternator like I did.

Give that a go see what hapens???

NOt at all mate, if you have a look under the inlet manifold on the passengers side you should be able to see it next to the pulleys for the PS, A/C etc etc..

do what i did
carry around a hammer and a multimeter
everytime it starts to die open up the bonnet and bang the shit out of it till it started charging at 14v again lol
i did this till it totally rooted and i no longer had headlights and indicators one day..

does a DA9 have a fuel light?
The Aus spec dont but the JDM do
if you really wanted to you could get the JDM cluster and connect it up some how?

NO that not acceptable you should know where the inlet manifold is! jks Yo

have they given you a quote on how much you're looking at fixing this? coz if I were you I wold have tried to at least taken it out of the car, might save you an extra $20 or so instead of them taking it out, seriously man it aint that hard of a thing to do.....

tru32u is right its def. the brushes in the alternator... LO-N-SXC the reason it started charging again sometimes when you wriggled the green connecter on the alternator, is because that moves the worn brushes slightly, and they temporarily make contact with the slip rings again, which makes you think its just the wiring :) but yeah 11 times out of 10 its just the brushes :)

u can easily find the intake manifold by following ur airbox to the engine... and its that thing and goes into the side of the engine its on the side closer to the windscreen...

NOte:this have been taken from the Helms manual and are just for reference, also you will notice that these instructions are for the USDM cars and not AUSDM cars but the same principles apply.
