hey guys ive got a dc2r i use it to and from work and occassional fri/sat night runs and sometimes i seem to onli get 330kms from a full tank and sometimes i get 380 and rarely get 400 or over. is there a problem with my fuel thingy ? any of you guys have problems with ur fuel?

Yeh, it sounds a little low but not too much. Maybe just needs a service. My fuel consumption gets pretty bad when its about service time. The best i ever get is 450 to a tank though, and thats if i dont give the car any gas at all (like 3k rpm changes for the whole tank.) No fun though.

yeah i tested it out and i got about 420ish kms from a full tank and that was thrashing it the whole time ( i just got the pod)...to be honest i couldnt beleive it..
but what ur saying it seems very low

It depends on the petrol you use as well. I used to use Shells Optimax and would never reach 400kms a full tank, when I switched over to BP Ultimate I found that it has better mileage, I reached 420kms with the occasional vtec. Mind you this is until the petrol warning light came on.

yeah im using mobil eva since i bought the car about 6 months ago. and ive onli reached 400 once. i seem to find that i use more petrol without thrashing it. when i do thrash it i seem to get more. weird. im on 97,000kms atm but i change my oils every 3 so i dont know why im gettin sucha low kms.. use stock airbox?. im using apexi pod atm should i change bak to my stock one and see how that goes?

A DC2R tank is about 40L I say.

Every fuel indicator is different.
Some guages show more, some show less.
Some fuel lights come on very early, some come on when the needle has past the last indicator line.
The best way to find out how much fuel the car has used is to remember how many litres it takes to fill up the car.
EG. ITr has a 50 litre tank, I fill the tank full and drive until the fuel light goes on, fill it up again to full level and take note how much fuel it takes to get it to full level.
Thats how much fuel the car uses.
Say it was 43.5 litres it took to get to full level, and the car travelled 435 km.

Try this process a few more times and try to work out the average.
That is the most accurate way to see howthirsty your car is.
Relying on the fuel light or the indicator needle is no good cos all cars will vary.

Hope my idea helps

On my interstate trip, i would still be able to travel an extra 60 - 70 kms after the light comes on. Even then, when i fill up, it still had another 3 or 4 more litres left in the tank.

normal is about 400-500km with occasional pushing of the car. bad fuel economy usually means your running rich or its time for a service. using the stock airbox makes a big differnce in fuel economy i have seen. also BP ultimate and mobil 8000 get better fuel economy.

35L for around 380km.

My fuel usage would be about the same as yours,300 to 400kms/tank, but if i hit the freeway for a long trip ie sydney to canberra i get nearly 700kms

Is your DC2R stock?

you'd be silly to be changing rpms at 2???
you will be using more throttle as apposed to changing at 4.
You'd therefore be using more fuel. unless you drive like a snail. ;)

if ur using VTEC most of the time of course it wont reach more than 400, VTEC engagement consumpts a fair amount of petrol, or maybe or jus using 7eleven petrol,

That's a good way to indicate it your fuel consumption...I do about 11L/100km :) but this is a jdm itr motor in my civic.

I have after market 4-1 headers, air intake and cat and I do up to 400km (that's when my fuel light goes on first time). That's with harder driving (going over 6000rpm very often) if I drive it just a bit eazyer I get to 425 before the fuel light goes on.
I fill my thank with 40l that's after first fuel light goes on. I think that my car does on average no more than 10l/100km which is good considering it's 100% city driving.

yes my car is stock just apexi pod and catbak. i dont change at 2 thats abit low i change at 3 or over but i dont usually hit vtec from mon-fri coz i onli drive 6minutes to and from work. i just dont know why out of everyone i seem to get the lowest kms from a full tank i use mobil and ppl tell me to onli use mobil. i dont fill the 8000 coz i seem to get lower kms on that stuff. should i change to bp or something? im due for 100k service so ill check my kms afta that and also try putting bak my stock airbox.

I usually get around 400kms for a full tank (40L) with regular driving....when i put the boot in to her i reckon I would get anything from 250-300kms. Lets face it a DC2R loves the revs and so do I...hehehe.

I use BP 98-ultimate.

Do you guys get back fire from your exhausts, I get tham sometimes, I don't know if my car is running a bit rich or is that normal???

28-02-2006, 10:05 PM
i use 98 octane all the time.. and its really important that u do cos i switching octanes even from jus 95 - 98 makes a big difference.. cos once i accidently put in jus the normal vortex and it was so sluggish and i probably got like 360km out of that without pushin hard very often..

i find that bp ultimate has given me the best mileage i got 530km but that was when the fuel indicator came on and i dint vtec once.. *i kno it took alot of restraining*

but i avg anywhere from 330km - 480km / tank or like 8.5L/100km - 12L/100km

stock car btw. i took out the air filter cos i was axing alot more cos of the freeway driving i do..

the most i have ever got was 420 in the 5 years ive owned the car and that was when i was driving on the freeway for some of the tank on the way to canberra

usually i get between 300 and 350... top cover off the box, thats why i dont understand hop people get big mileage.... i just like to enjoy driving it though so it doesnt matter

catching public transport means i drive even less, and usually means im not shy wih the gas pedal

hehe

You guys should talk about ltrs/kms, not kms/tank. My DC2 VTiR uses about 10-11ltr/100kms. If I drive sedately (which I rarely do) I get ~7.7/100kms. Judging by 'tank' is not a good measurment, 'cuz everyone fills up at different times. I know it's not a Type R, but I get between 350 and 400kms before I fill up, but that's only 35-44ltrs of petrol, my tank is 50ltrs.

Also, on an EFI engine you shouldn't be letting your petrol get too low. I'd avoid letting the fuel light come on too often. There's crap that floats at the top of your tank, and if you let your fuel get low, you're likely to suck that crap in to the filter, causing less flow and issues with fuel delivery.

I never use anything but BP 98 Ultimate. Tried the others, and I notice more economy and the car feels a little more powerfull up high and touch more torquey down low with a tank of BP98 in it. Dunno why.

That's because it's not empty when you go to fill it up.

This is why saying "I get XXkm per tank" is a useless measurement.

If you really wait till you're empty, then you're an idiot. If you let your EFI car get too low on petrol the fuel pump can start to suck in junk in the fuel tank. It clogs the fuel filter and causes drops in pressure. Bad for your injectors and your engine. It can even let some junk get past your fuel filter and into your fuel system.

even with the light comes on i still drive a for a few mins then fill up
That's nowhere near empty. Your tank still has around 10L in it when that light comes on. Another few mins after the light comes on means you're still on more than 9L when you fill up. 9L in a 50L tank? You still have more than 18% of your petrol left.

You'd know if your fuel tank was empty. The car would start spluttering and surging and eventually, die. Even then there will be a little bit left in the bottom of your tank that your fuel pump just can't pick up.

How much you get from a tank is a useless measurement. Here's what you do:

1. Get a notepad and pen and put it in your car.
2. Fill your tank up, and re-set your trip computer / meter.
3. Drive until you feel like filling up. This doesn't have to until the tank is empty.
4. Fill up your tank, and write down how many liters it took
5. Write down how many km/s you've done off your trip computer, then re-set it.
6. Do some simple math. Divide the km/s by 100 to get your 100km/s traveled, then divide your liters by your 100km/s traveled and you have your ltrs/100km. I used the calculator on my phone so I didn't have to sit there figuring it out in my head at the servo.

Repeat steps 3-6 a few times to get a feel for your car. Perhaps drive try driving really sedately one fill up, then drive harder another and put notes next to those results. Try doing a freeway trip and see how that effects your economy.

I kept a log for about a year and a half in the DC2. I've stopped now because I have a feel for how much the car should drink and can tell when it's not being fuel efficient just by checking my trip odometer when I fill up.
