Hi Guys,

Would a B16/B18 fit onto a D15B4 gearbox.

Are they compatible without modification, or would I have to swap engine and box??

Cheers,
Andrew

Can anyone please advise.

I have an Aussie Civic AWD setup and dont want to toos the gearbox/transfer/AWD system

Please help.

Dude all you’re going to do if you feed too much power into that AWD setup is blow it up. Those setups are known to be extremely weak and wont handle much power past stock.

Are they that fragile.

I heard that they can take quite a bit of extra hp.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I never had any personal experience with them so I can't say for sure but I do remember reading a few times on this forum and honda-tech that these AWD setups were garbage.

I guess you might be able to find people with personal experience with these gearboxes on D series .org. it being a d series gearbox an all.

B series engines fit B series gearboxes.
D series engines fit D series gearboxes.

They are not interchangable

OK, so if a B-series wont fit a D-series and there is no adapyter plate for them, my other options would be either to swap one of these two:

1. D16a8/9 - DOHC
2. D15y8 (?) - SOHC VTEC

Which would give me the best gains for a turboed motor. My thoughts would be the D16a8/9 as the tunability of the twin cams would be beneficial to a turbo motor.

Comments anyone........

And thanks all for responding.

Cheers,
Andrew

The thread started talking about a gearbox but not sure why you are talking about motors now?

Just use the stock box (D15B I presume??) as that should last awhile provided you drive the car sensibly. At the same time look around for a spare box. I don't know about the D15B box but the D16A8/Y boxes are pretty stron. Do you have a hydraulic or cable clutch/

I think what the poster wants is to keep his existing gearbox and swap a new engine into the car to keep the AWD system that he currently has.

CTR - thats exactly the situation. If I cant get a B16/18 because of non-compatability, then I would like to pursue other D-series options, namely DOHC or SOHC with VTEC.

So the question would be, which one of the above would be the most beneficial down the track int erms of power and tunability for a turbo'd engine.

You can get a D-series VTEC, although it is only SOHC.

Check D-series.org forum for details.
