Hi all, i hope this is ok to post here.
i am having a problem with my fuel tank in my 1990 honda accord exi
i can only use about half a tank before i need to fill up again or my (automatic!) will stall.
at first i thought the pick up was too high - so only reaching half a tank. but ive taken it to my repairer and they said it looked normal.
now i was wondering if anything remotely similar has happened with other people or if anyone could shed some new light. its not dangerous, its a damn hassle!

First of all i'd like to say welcome to the club.

I've also got a CB Accord, but through out the 380000KM thats right 380000KM i've never experience this problem before. But, what i do have to say it that, my fuel light doesnt work and i'm too scared that she'll stop in the middle of no where.

What type of petrol are you using? and Whats the condition of the car. If you had a mechanic look at it then i'm not sure how i'm gonna help. Ohhh rembering back i had somthing simular but had nothing to do with the fuel, I would be driving and the car would just stop working all to gether Engine light would come on and Forget starting the thing up again..... Anways it turned out to be the coils, and got them replaced and hey presto she's still pulling along fine.

Where abouts are you located? If your in Melb i have a Specialised Honda Mechanic that could look at that for you.

I don't much about where components are on this car, but some cars have the fuel pump in the tank -- could be that there's a problem with the pump and it's just not getting any fuel when the level drops.

Can you exclude the possibility of faulty fuel gauge?

How many litres of petrol can you put into your tank when your fuel gauge needle pointing at half way mark?
If the answer is 50+ Litre, then you have a faulty gauge,
If it is <35 Litres, then chance of of faulty gauge is very low.

How this help a bit.

no i know its not the gauge. i fill a max 26 litres everytime and get 200-250 ks from it. im thinking something to do with the weight of the fuel and angle of the car, as on a decline it tends to stall more than on an incline - and the guage follows that.

Something floating around in the tank blocking the fuel outlet?
