hey guys,

im currently in the look out for an s2000 at the moment. needing some info from u s2000 owners.

ive found an s2000, however there is one problem to it.. the box has kinda shatted itself. apparently 3rd and 4th's syncro's are gone.

his been quoted $2k to get the 2 gears fitted with new syncros.. does this even sound right?

what am i looking at paying if i was to purchase this car with the gearbox problem?

its an 01 model if that helps!

thanks,
will

mate if the gearbox is shit itself and its only a 2001 model then dont buy it. Thats probably proof that it has been driven hard, or the guy cant drive for shit and doesnt know what a clutch is.. either way dont buy it!!!

How many kms?

depends on how much your paying for your car overall whether its gona be worth it or just looking at a different S altogether. Have you considered trying to look for a second hand gearbox? fixing an s2k gearbox is never gona be a cheap job and odds are if the gearbox is stuffed could mean the car has had a hard life. This could mean other things could be in line to fail for example the diff, which isnt cheap either.

ps: so i guess u sold the mini cooper for an s2k? lol

not too sure atm. But i remember seeing hontoys in smithfield having a smashed up yellow s2k. Maybe you could give those guys a call. But the labour would also be expensive. So all up it wont be a cheap job.

Clutch change is pretty much the same job and is about 10 hours. Budget $600-1000 for labour.

i wouldnt waste my time on the car..an 01 model that required a gearbox rebuild means the owner must be a shit driver or totally thrashed the crap out of it...good luck with finding a mint one

It's not greatly different to other cars I've worked on except that accessing the bellhousing bolts in a pain. Have to remove a few accessories and use metre long extensions to get to some.

yeah probably not the best idea to buy that particular car, wait around and see what else pops up.
