Hi guys, I'm after people's opinions as to WHY I always seem to have this bubble problem with my tyres. I got a camber kit installed to help combat this problem but it's still happening.

The most recetn example of bubbles in my tyres was on the weekend when I was driving home, my ride was extra bumpy and the car was hard to control.
I took it to a tyre place on Saturday, only to be told my 2 front tyres have bubbles, and the back ones are starting to do the same thing.

The guy took one of the front ones off for me and showed me the bubbles and I nearly freaked out. More than 1/2 of the tyre is warped.

Has / does this happen to anyone else? What causes it? Should I get my camber adjusted again?

Also, if anyone from the shire can recommend a good tyre place - I want a brand name but don't want them to cost me an arm & a leg.
So far I've been quoted $244.50 per tyre for Dunlops (215/40 - 17) And considering im going to need 4....that's a hell of a lot of money.

hey man try to buy 2nd tyres first to check if its your camber. dont spend near 1 K on the new tyres and then get them bubble (if it is your camber that cause it).

Are your tyres the correct weight rating for your car cause tyre blisters are usually from excessive heat.
Also check they are the right sort of compound for Australian roads and temperatures.
If the tyres are right it has to be wheel alignment but id look at other things first. As you said the back ones are doing it aswell and they shouldnt be out of alignment unless you have changed them aswell.
Then i would be looking for things that were done to both front and back suspension settings

Thanks for ur replies guys :)

Big `O - I dunno what suspension my car has lol

Cvik ryda - Im just gunna bite the bullet and shell out the money first go. I don't trust 2nd hand / retread tyres. That's just me though.

ek4-guy - I just got told about the weight ratio now via the phone. I think that might be the problem with my current tyres. The people I got my last set of tyres from probably thought 'she's a chick, she doesn't know anything so we'll just chuck anything on her car, get her money and be done with it' :thumbdwn:

I feel like going back and showing them what crap they're selling to people.

Are these bubbles on the sidewalls? Could you get a picture of this?

Unless its a manufacturing fault, most sidewall bubbles are due to some sort of impact and damage, i.e. hitting a kerb etc.

I'm going to get pictures of it when I get home. And no I haven't hit a kerb or anything like that!

I've tried taking pictures, but they don't come out well .... u can't see what I'm talking about.

Basically, what it looks like is 'lumps' in the tyre sidewall. When you look at the tyre side-on, you can see these 'lumps' and the tyre looks out of whack.

EDIT - found a pic online, sort of what I'm talking about, only mine aren't so bad!

Depending on your driving style, it can also be the result of hard braking and locking up the wheels (sliding will result in flat spots and bubbles) -- tyres don't like drifting and hand-brakies... ;)

mmmmmm well check your side walls on the tyres it shold read...
205/40/17 89 (V) (W)(Z)
atleast the number after 17 should read 89 or more
if not it sounds like ur wheels are rubbing against something check if theres enuff clearance.
if your in need of tyres i can hook you up with some at a good price:)
happy to help a fellow OH
proberally able to get cheapo brands at 100 110 per tyre branded tyres start at 130

Tyres I've got on the car at the moment are silverstone. I have no idea about them being the wrong rating, although it's a possibility. I'm feeling like I got jipped big time :thumbdwn:

For the record, I haven't run into and kerbs, nor have I done any drifting lately loll jks jks.... I'm a good driver! :p

TRY32U - my tyres are 215/40/17 83.... but the back ones are 215/40/17 87  I'ld prefer to get brand tyres than cheapo ones. If you want pm me the details. Thanks!

You have the wrong weight loading tyres, that is why your getting 'tyre bubbles' The tyre dealer who sold them to you should be SHOT!!

I also assume that you run about 30~36psi of tyre pressure... if so DONT, the extremely low profile series tyres such as yours require about 40psi to get the volume of air inside the tyre and allow sufficient cooling.

205/40R17 Nankang NSII are $120 at Tempe Tyres, I prefer Hankook Ventus K104 Sports for about $160. 240+ for Dunlops is a rip off no matter where you go.

^ ^ I agree. I do feel like going to the tyre place that I got my wheels from and demanding some sort of 'compensation' but I don't think I would get very far.

My tyre pressure is always 42psi.

Where do you get those Hankook ones for $160? Tempe? I don't see myself going there for tyres.

Check what load rating your car has from the factory. Pretty sure it is 89...
Have you still got the receipt for the tyres they fitted??
Does receipt list what tyres they put on and that they were fitted to your car??

If so, Department of Fair Trading will get a majority of the cost of original tyres back for you. There is no way you should have to pay for a tyre when the weight loading was lower than standard specification!!

First, Talk to the tyre shop and ask for heavily discounted replacement tyres or your money back + repairs to the damaged wheel rim! otherwise your going to Department of Fair Trading/A Current Affair. Sure its a hassle but why should you have to pay for the tyre shops mistake??

I had a guy on the central coast(while I was on holiday) fit the wrong 20" tyres to my X-Trail which split the sidewalls 3 streets away, mangled up my old 20's and I was FUMING!! They fitted new 20" rims in a design that I liked that they had in stock, fitted the correct tyre and gave it a wheel alignment for free...

Hankook K104's should be available for roughly the same price everywhere. Also try Toyo's

I had tyre warping on my tyres which were firenzas.
so i wouldnt go those

I had issues left right and centre with hankooks

I now run yokohama v505's with nitrogen in them, they are awesome tyres so far (20k of driving)

look at the yokohamas too

Thanks
