Hey everyone!
It's coming up to my birthday and i've been given $1000 to use on my 96' Teggy. The first thing that came to mind was a scissor door conversion, which can be purchased for under $1k. Has anyone had experience with these and be honest, will I look like a loser opening the doors up in public?
Anyone have other ideas for things that can be done with this money. No engine work guys, insurence will luub me up and rape me.
Thanks. (feel free to pm me if you have shit at home you dont need)

just do some performance mod, like air intake, header, cat back, honestly that kind of door just doesn't suit any jdm cars, i think it will look stupid, good luck man

Suspension dude....some proper shocks/springs combo..that will be one of the best investments ever spent on your car...i'm not a big fan of scissor doors as well...and i'm not too sure if insurance will wanna insure you as well with scissor doors because "what if" u are in an accident and the doors are modified and u cant get out. hehe..hypotheticals..u know the drfit.
And yes, you will look like a looser in public.

PS. POST A PIC OF UR CAR SO WE CAN SEE WHAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR IT

lol at sireal's last comment.
i think you should write a list of the things you want, eitehr audio, visual, or performance, once you rate them form most priority to least, then start to plan out what u want.
i had around 1 grand when i 1st got my car and the 1st 3 thigns i did was subs, springs and short shifter (got springs and short shifter cheap) and yeh, form there i decided other things but the point is think about what u really want out of your car, coz in the end, who gives a crap what others think, your the one driving it :)
also there aree alot of mods u can do very cheaply, like RAM air intake can cost less than 70 dollars or so

It would look funny if the car is stock with sissor doors. And pretty sure insurance wouldn't allow it unless its engineered (which will cost $$$$). I say get some outside mods done if you can't do any performance. Get a kit or wheels or suspension, etc....

yes. positive REP point for that post !!
think what you want out of your car and how long you're going to keep it and what your budget is.. then devise a plan of attack.. decide what things you WANT, what you NEED etc.. then go from there gradually.. in the end you'll know more about your car and will have a balanced package unlike some of these crew that buy a car then spend thousands and thousands of mommy n daddy's money on extreme mods that dont really get them anywhere nor do they suit the driver/owner's needs.. then they sell the car in 6 months and lose all that $$.. bla bla bla..

:) my car aint stock so I better clarify a few things.
What I've got >>>
$2000k Sound System - Infinity fronts and backs, 4way 6x9s, pioneer mp3/wma deck, jvc amps and sub, some other goodies.
Lowered on superlows w/ all the usual involved.
16" Advanti Rims (enough for now, rubbers good)
Exhaust system (as far as i know, the most anyones ever done on a teggy). Extractors, pipe splits ,2 1/4 piping, whats left of the cat, no resinator, 2 6" zetti cannons with 2 1/2" all the way through.
Engine mods are out of the question, insurance and a caring mum ensure that :D
Body kit and or/ 18's are too expensive for me.
I was thinking scissor doors for the cool factor, i can get them for $550. Maybe new seats would be a good idea too.

whoa....loose the 2nd cannon. loose the type wannabe sticker.
cann the scissor door idea for the time being. $1000 will get you a kit and could almost get it painted, i see your in qld, ive got a mate (who im talking to again haha - mr focus knows who i mean) who does paint and panel, he also can get kits as can i (www.vivagarage.com) so for $1000 we can get you a kit easy as (looking around the 600-800 mark) and then you may need to save 1 or 200 more for paint and fit and youll enjoy the look of the car a lot more.
it all comes down to what you want from the car...showy? racey? gayDM? etc etc. answer us all that then people in that area of experties can help you

why not do some internal engine work? they won't know if you've dropped new cams or cam gears into the engine. i'd rather make $1000 work for me than doing an external mod that in a years time will cause headaches (pillars sagging, door not shutting properly, not being able to park undercover etc.)

Yeah, get rid of both mufflers and put in one 3" muffler. 18" on a DC2 - with stock sized brakes - would look stupid.
Save your $1,000, save save save, sell your DC2 GSI, buy a Type R. The lack of LSD in the VTiR is a pain, so go straight to Type R. Then once you have the Type R, do suspension work, perhaps flywheel, exhaust, intake. But leave the body stock. So sexy. If you wanna rice it, get a VTiR.

shhhh mick
cheap siccor door kits, suck. simple. ive seen doors not being able to open from the inside. the struts leak and cant hold the door up, or the force is so strong the person goes up with it.

it would cost alot more to put scissor doors on your car than 1k....simply they are heaps of crap, they need to be reinforced greatly and improved heaps otherwise once the door is open a bird could crash into the side and itll fall down and chop your head off! (true story happened to a friend of mine, ended up costing him ALOT more for the surgery to attach his head again). seriously tho they are VERY flimsy.
basically the scissor doors dont suit alot our cars because when the door is open the door wraps around the window, u know what i mean? it makes it look heavy and not a shmick.
