View Full Version : New dry non-oiled pod filter!

AEM just released a non-oiled pod filter. Just soap it up, rinse, shake it dry and put it back on! (or so it claims).

And is the reason for exposed pod filters being defectable because of the oil used in the filters? If it is, then this dry pod would be non-defectable? (But I'd bet that the cops would still group it under the oiled filter category)

yeah the oil has something to do with the defect side of things but its mostly the noise pollution that it disperses and the fact that is is a 'modification' ooooo the evil word...
Apex-i have had the dry filter for quite awhile now also...

exposed pods are defectable because it if of the believe that fuel gasses can build up in the engine and make their way out through the intake to the POD. Where by Starting the car can create a spark, possibly causing a fire/explosion. Highly unlikely; but thats one reason why.

I have an Apexi and I usually take it out give it a bit of a tap on the side then I use the vaccum to get all the rubish out, but would there be any other way to do this? any one know?

You only oil it after you clean it with the filter cleaning and oiling kit. (it's a special oil too)

a 'dry' airfilter or reusable airfilter which is dry is nothing new....

being australia and all its not easy to obtain aem parts.

...but if you want a dry cotton based filter, the apexi pod filter will do with a 3inch universal neck

Where does it say an oiled filter is defectable? I can't find any information on the RTA site.

Its more likely exposed filters are defectable because of noise pollution. it just happens that most exposed filters are aftermarket and need to be oiled for them to work effectively.

Use an Oiled foam or K&N as an OEM replacement in your airbox and I'm sure you won't be defected.

You can get AEM products from motoquipe, but Im not sure if they are Australian wide. They quoted me $150 for a dryflow replacement filter... Im still thinking of gettting it for its ease of cleaning...

*shrug* the engineer had no problems with my exposed filter, neither did the RTA. Its a non-oiled one if that makes a difference

I read from Cypher Industries (www.cypherindustries.com.au) that stainless steel type air filter is completely useless although they seem to be never wear out

No. Stainless steel mesh-type air filters are sold as being the 'last filter you will ever need to buy'. Often promoted as an air filter that doesn't get dirty or a zero-maintenance air filter. Don't get sucked in….literally. These air filters don't get dirty and are extremely high-flowing for a very good reason. They DO NOT filter the incoming airstream enough!! Next time you get your hands on one, have a good through the air filter, and you'll know what I mean. A person can walk around with these mesh air filters over their eyes!!! Its completely see through! We have demonstrated this time and time again to people. And if you grab a handful of dirt or water, and put it on the filter, water just runs straight through, and the dirt get sieved out into a fine dust cloud!! Now imagine this getting into your motor!! Need we say more?

What do you think?

AEMs dryflow isnt a steel type air filter. Its synthetic, but that doesnt mean its metallic... On the web site it says its made from polyster...

Well here in SA we are allowed to have exposed pod filter so long as you have a bracket that holds it in place... My car passed a full roadworthy inspection with an exposed pod...
