PIONEER all the way. I got mine from JB 1yr ago for $270 it plays mp3 and wmv aswell. I think its great..

alot of the pioneer range is being discontiued i think, my headuit the 7750 is around $420 now, pioneer are releasing new headunits around the 300-350 mark i think, shop around till you find one on sale :)

personal preferance is eclipse, i have an 8454 and has been the best unit ive ever had, couple of mates have the 1000 abd 2000 series that are more relatively priced and reports are all good, eclipse are the go but jvc is great like the other fellas said too, also pioneer units leave you a bit short of pocket if you have to replace the oel display :thumbdwn:

ive had the same JVC HU for 3 years now its been great with no problems at all, its that black faced chameleon one, its old now but matchs my interior so i love it, and it goes toally black and flat wen its turend off witch is pretty kool.
JVC is the way 2 go.

sony sucks. pioneer entry level are ugly! jvc sucks too ahaha im a pessimist.
Personally I'd pick a pioneer still tho. I like the new 6850, but thats past ur budget already. But I guess out of Sony and JVC I like Sony design better.

the pioneer 5850 is nice, however its stupid cos its only 2preout. whereas the one above is 3preouts however the stupid screen is bright enough to blind you at night.

the JVC 615 unit is cheap and BFYB, however it was realeased in 2004! Its old...

Lol! yeah thats the one im talking about. I got the lower model to this for 180 cause i didnt really find any use for the AUX. Few of my friends has the DVD version and they are great. Nice and simple design and CHEAP :thumbsup:

Never had probelms with my old clarion deck

Currently using a JVC KD-6150 DVD deck.(..i know slightly out of your price range)
Reason that i mention it is that can be touchy with some brand CDR/W DVDr/W's

Can be a pain having to burn disks that dont work ...but thats why you use RW's

If your not 100% sure goto a good car audio place and check them out.

Usually ends up being a look thing in the end as they are much the same.

well the AUX model one being the 615, theres the 'MOSFET' amp thingo as well.
i pikd up the unit for 200 @ jb about july 2005.
price of 249 has been there for yonks.
kd-g615 has a sub out also.
