Aim: Fix window rattling/change power window assembly

Required: Things I used were 10mm socket, Fulaprene 303 (adhesive), and masking tape. Might need grease but I havent used this yet.

*EDIT* Use Silicon Spray along the rubber tracks.

Steps:

OK as requested heres a DIY to fixing that annoying window rattles and also changing the window assembly if needed. I'll start from the window assembly.

I would recommend you get someone to give u a hand. I've pulled out the control for the power window and plugged it back in to make life easier cuz you'll be needing to wind the window up and down.

Step 1)

Wind the window down so you can see the 2 10mm bolts holding the window to the control arms. Remove the 2 bolts making sure the window doesnt suddenly drop. Heres where a 2nd person can be of use. Once you've done that lift the window back up and use the tape to tape the window to the frame, it shouldnt drop after this.

Step 2)

Remove all those bolts marked in red. These hold the assembly onto the car door. Once youve done slide it out.

These are my old ones. The section that holds the window shouldnt wobble that much.

Step 3)

I bought a pair of regulator assembly from the wreckers to save from going to honda and ordering new parts. Works just as well. Just try grabbing one from a later model Integra as they are more likely to be in good condition. Now just place everything back in the way u took them out. Don't tighten any bolts until you've winded the windows up as you may need to adjust it a bit.

Take a break before you continue with fixing the track for the window. Stops the rattling. You only need to do this is your rubber stripping on the window track has fallen off. Most likely has if your window is rattlling. If not, you're done.

Step 4)

Remove the bolt circled in blue. This holds the lower track onto the door. Pull this out. It should come out fairly easy.

Picture of the window track still in the door. Notice the rubber stripping is not there.

Step 5)

Grab your rubber track which is hopefully on the bottom of ur door just sitting there and use the glue to glue is back on. I placed the glue on the track itself. The trimmed side points upwards.

Should look something like this

Step 6)

Now you need to place the lower track back in the door.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b333/zorrt/DSC00475.jpg

Wind your window down and remove the plastic to reveal 3 screws which hold down the top tracks for the window. The cover is held on by glue so you'll have to glue it back on after you've finished. Remove this track. Makes it easier to put the lower track back on cuz now you can move the window around.

Step 7)

Wind the window back up. Now slide the track back into its space and do up the bolt which holds it. Spray some silicon spray on it before winding the window down. It should follow along the tracks. Spray silicon spray on the other side of the window on the track also. Pretty much around all the rubber mouldings.

Step 8)

Put the top track back in and glue that plastic cover you removed earlier after you've screwed it back on. You're done. Just put your car back together the way you took it out

Not a hard job. Took me about 2 hrs to work out how to do it but, then took me about 30 mins to do the other window. I recommend cleaning things as you take them out as they may be covered in dirt and grime over the years.

Hope this DIY helps.

i knew i should've looked up a D.I.Y article before i attempted this!

has anyone else attempted this? do i need to remove the whole assembly to change just the motor?

if my window doesnt wind down at all, what do i do instead of "Step - 1"? force it down? lol
