hey guys something very wierd happened to me today.

was driving after class and the motor just died..
it lost revs. and died. the acted like it had no petrol.

pulled over to the side of the road, started it again. it starts and dies straight away.
the revs didnt even reach 1K rpm idle
anywayz so i did a quik DIY code check. Code 3 was coming out ( map sensor)
after i let it cooled down i gave it another go.
and bang she starts..
i was confused. then i closed my bonnet. the car dies again..
so i checked all the fuses this time. everything was fine.
after about 10 mins.
she starts again.
and i drove it home straight after.
anyways to cut this short
does any1 have suggestions of what i should do???
the motor is a b16a

might be the spark plugs, sounds like something that happen to my mates rotary once. the plugs were flooded and couldnt fire up (didnt get it running until new plug were put in though)

If its Code 3 (Map Sensor) replace the sensor with a known working one to see if the problem repeats itself.

Map sensor is quite important as the ecu requires the readings of this sensor to allow drivability to the car. If it doesnt detect vacuum it doesnt know what part of the fuel table to be in and wont deliver the required amount of fuel properly.

Going off topic to this subject early S2000 had a map sensor problem where the car would hesitate/poor idle and experience loss of power during acceleration. The fix to this was known as the Map Sensor whack. Basically you take a rubber mallet and wack it (gently) and the sensor would somehow work again. When that failed you'd normally replace the sensor

simialr symptons of a ignition switch as well.
when you turn it on the reds.. does it stay on?
dealt with this problem many times before.
but i could be wrong,

I have seen the ICM cause this sort of thing,

when the car warms up, the Igniter fails and the car stalls, you wait 30 min or so then the car will start for a bit again.

check for spark when she doesnt want to start,
also check your main PGMFI relay.

as for the MAP, it could be the MAP, check the connector, make sure its clean and free from crap in the connector. the ecu could have this code in it from another time, or it could be related.

quick test to do
reset the ecu and se what pop's up
check for spark when it wont start
check the main relay
listen for the fuel pump prime

good luck

of happened again this morning..
but this time the car started up in 30secs.
this is wierd.
i think it could be the fuel pump earthing
or maybe could it possibly be the engine ba earthing?

hm..i dont think it was the main relay..
it happened after i got the alarmed installed

the map sensor error is no more.i just forogot to clear the ECU..
anywayz now it's got no codes..but still dies..

maybe you didn't connect the wires up correctly to the ignition wires?

maybe you didn't connect the wires up correctly to the ignition wires?

if that was the case.
then the car wont start would it.

check the alarm wiring, sounds like its done wrong.

Why don't you remove the alarm and see what happens.

]']hm..i dont think it was the main relay..

Does your alarm have an Imobiliser in it?

It could be that the alarm is not shutting off straight away and thus causing the motor to die.

As others have said try disconnect the alarm and see if it does it still.

A short in the alarm wiring will cause this to happen also.

Maybe take it to an auto electrician to get the wiring checked over first.
