no nothing has been done to it yet. it still needs a fair bit of work to get it running the way i want it to. Its sitting on some yellow springs that are just too low for it. Its scraping pretty much over anything. Does anyone have any idea what sort of springs these could be?

It depends on the service history.

If you have no history then I would start fresh and change:
Engine oil (Honda Oil is good, or maybe Mobil Synth-S which is great in my 250,000km engine)
Transmission oil (use Honda MTF)
Coolant replacement
Brake and clutch fluid replacement (only use Honda fluid)
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter
Tappet adjustment
Throttle Body clean
IACV and FITV clean
New spark plugs
Check Spark plug cable resistance
Check/replace Dizzy cap (cheap)

If u do it all urself it may cost around $200 (excluding tools)
The car will run heaps smoother after all that ;)

and if i choose to do this at charlie's mechanic how much will i be charged?

I have always done my own filters/fluids so I have no idea.
Maybe $250 for 3-5hours labour? (just a guess)

You could tell them what you want done and get a quote over the phone.

Welcome to the EF9 club. Had mine for 7 years now and it has 305,000 on the clock and is still going strong.

Take it to Hanny's for servicing - well worth it.

maybe u can change those engine oil, gearbox oil by urself .. and then give he rest of the service to the mechanic to do it, that will be cheaper
check oil is easy job and u can save $100+ for the labour :p
