hey guys n gals,

Im looking into doing a b18 conversion, but im unsure of which path to travel. do i drop in a b18c and go hardcore N/A or do i throw in a b18b and boost it? Has anyone done either of these conversions before? what were the costs involved? what will i need (apart from engine, gearbox, mounts)?

cheers
Mick

man just a b18c7 itself stock in a crx will go hard, dont need to waste your money trying to faster or peform better when we have speed laws. (Y)

If money is no problem then k20, but then you would be happy with just a b18c. Just do a quick search, heaps on info about transplants.

This is among many threads that will provide you with valuable information.

I can't but help join the vetrans on this one and suggest you do a search. There are a number of threads that also cover the nitbits you need to complete a conversion.

Also, no one can tell you what the best path is if they don't know what you want to achieve. Drag, circuit, hillclimb, street, daily driving etc. In my opinion a b18c7 into a gen2 CRX would be plenty fast enough STOCK plus maybe a few bolt ons. I really think that if you boosted it you would have to toy with the accelerator too much to drive it "politely" on a daily basis (ie not generate loud screeching sounds or smoke). Of course, this depends on the size of the turbo and the power you're generating. But why would you boost a b18c7 converted gen2 CRX if you weren't aiming at all out power?

Just do heaps of searches in all the relevant forums and perhaps ask a few drivers of b18c converted CRXs what they are like to drive, or maybe get a spin in one and formulate your own opinions.

b18b + boost is a popular choice over in states mick. prolly be cheaper than b18c7 + NA parts too.

I've seen b18c7 half cuts installed for around 10k... just the engine/pieces for 8k maybe.

i helped put a b18c2 into a gen 2 crx about 4 years ago - drove the thing around for 3 months ironing out the bugs too. And , stock , it halued ass :)

I would think this is dependant on ur budget. A 1.8 l engine is a league above any 1.6 in useable torque for sure...depends on which level you want to stop at tho.
The b18b would be a simpler and cheaper swap , but for alittle bit extra effort (3-5 more wires) and a few more $$$ you can have a 141kw engine in a 850ish kg shell.

Thats what i am doing :)
