Does anyone know if the insulations been improved on the new Type Rs. I have not driven the older Type Rs and have nothing to compare it to. I also only got a short test drive of the type Rs so i dont know how they behave on highway etc.

one more chance

i havent driven the DC5R, but i'm assuming it'll be alot quieter then the DC2R. DC2R is quite loud, but to me, its nice loudness.....

The new DC5R are very quiet and smooth. The ride quality is alot better than the older model (My brother used to own a DC2R)...

DC2R's have little to none insulating factor...hence where the reduction in weight comes to mind...as for the dc5r's they have insulation of around 10mm thick if i can remember correctly...which softens the road noise a fair amount compared to the DC2R...

As I understand it, there is no insulation on the dc2r. It is loud and you may get annoyed. My mum has been in my car and does not like the noise. But I like the sound of vtec so it doesn't bother me. But the freeways can get annoying sometimes. You get used to it though.

technically no there is no insulation although some DC2R's as an option have the underbody 'TAR' which reduces road noise and protects the underbody...and this IMO is an insulator... :)

Hey I didn't know that. How can you tell if you have this underbody 'TAR' and what does it look like?

It's black, and sticky if its relatively clean. Over time, dirt builds up and it hardens the outer surface, making the underbody quite resistant to stones as well as protecting against underbody rust.

You can tell by running your fingers in the wheel-arch. Its rubbery and/or sticky. If the car doesn't have it, then it should feel like plastic (if it's clean).
