Does anyone have any information on this car?
For those that don't know, it's a black Del Sol CRX from Victoria that recently ran 11.60 at Calder Park on it's debut outing.

From what i know he has a B16a, GT3040 turbo, JE pistons, eagle rods, darton sleeves, pretty sure he has a quaife LSD and other bits n pieces.

big dollars there!

who built and tuned it?

poid
25-08-2003, 07:19 PM
I think he is affiliated with the guys that import Hondata in Melbourne (not 100% on that though)...well maybe not 'affiliated' but pretty sure he at least knows them and that he is running Hondata

MSD ignition bits also come to mind

Yeah same man, but not anymore! I think it got sold that one. I hope the new owner realise's that it's not the same car it once was......

Nah, that's a different car man.

Thats a different car, but i believe he has run in the 11's as well.

Weq, that's my friends customer's car. He bought my other friends complete engine/turbo setup. It's a pretty good setup and will produce a bit of power when my friends dyno tuner returns from OS. That car won't be pulling 11sec tho.

BLKCRX's car is basicly a complete engine buy of the shelf from JG, it's said to be producing over 300wkw but can only produce a 11.63sec 1/4mile. Lot's of traction problems there

Jnr Teggy

impressive setup there!

I keep staring at that D16A8 block....hmmm nice.

VTi-RT
26-08-2003, 11:08 PM
They guy that's doing the install owns the 2nd fastest Vic FWD. a 1.6ltr dohc non-vtec turbo. for the D16A8 it's got heaps of power and torque.

INFLYT
27-08-2003, 12:10 AM
An 11.63 on it's debut outing isn't exactly slow.......

VTi-RT
27-08-2003, 12:00 PM
no, but the power his is producing and the weight of the car should well and truely put him in the 10sec bracket once the works out his traction problems.

one more chance

From what i know he has a B16a, GT3040 turbo, JE pistons, eagle rods, darton sleeves, pretty sure he has a quaife LSD and other bits n pieces.

that wouldnt be enough for an 11sec pass though!

must be on the laughing gas though........

27-08-2003, 02:36 PM
How isnt that enough for an 11 sec pass, even without gas?

INFLYT

That's only a brief description of what the car is packing, so a judgement on it's performance can't be made based on that.

BLKCRX isnt really what ud call a off the shelf buy from JG..infact i believe the ONLY JG part hes running is a Intake manifold. The owner originally purchased a US turbo kit. When at the track his best time was only a 13.88. Then he started to upgrade parts..Upgraded to a gt3040 and full race manifold. The 11.6 was done after this..however james has now sold the gt3040 and is going bigger again. I know a fair bit of his setup but dont really wanna give it away unless he decides to do so..Hell prolly be joining this forum very soon anyways.

I wish him the best of luck in going faster

Hey all, thanks for all the kind comments, hmm I wonder where some of this untrue stories come from, engine built by JG lol man that’s so not true.

I like many people down here (Johnston and branko and damo ) in Melbourne have been working for quite some time researching and designing our cars to preform above the rest, and yeah a week before Melbourne Autosalon 2003 we took the car down to Calder park and ran our fastest time of 11.60 @129 (our last run of the evening) there is a video floating around on the net of our 1st 3 run’s but they didn’t record our 4th run which was our fastest yet to date.

For our 1st time really out on the track we were very happy with the results, myself and my best friend Age from Razz Tech Performance built and designed then whole car from ground up, we did a lot of testing and design work around 1 year ago at Heathcote where we learnt so much via trial and error, sadly FWD racing is still much of a mystery here in Australia compared to the USA. The list of modifications is well pages and pages, just ask my insurance company about the 100’s of modifications on my policy.

Im not affiliated with Hondata, I am the pioneer of Hondata technology in Australia, and have done much research / design and testing with regards to compatibility in Australia with Hondata. Currently car uses an s200 full feature Hondata Honda ECU.

The car featured in the URL posted is UCACRX damo’s car another Melbourne car and a great mate of mine, he recently brought Johnston’s old turbo set-up and again it has been improved from its original specs although he has’t run his car yet. More than likely were both heading to Heathcote this Sunday for some practice before jamboree if the weather holds out.
I my self haven’t been much in the scene for the last 2 months due to a accident at Autosalon where I made the stupid mistake of working on my car without stands while under the car, causing my car to fall and injuring my left hand, although we hope to make it up to jamboree with the MCCR crew this year.

We still have many issues with my car and research and design trial and error is the only way to combat it currently were making some changes which should improve our results the question is where do you stop.

Our car still is fully street trim with complete interior, power steering etc racing with 17’s on the back on a b16a2 engine using stock bore and stroke, making it a 1.6L engine, with the car weighing 1200kg+. We have no intention of using NOS at this stage nor have we ever tired it, although it is an option down the track to spray in 3rd or 4th gear or to help us get off the line.

I encourage more people to get out and race, and can’t wait for the day that the FWD category gets divided up into street, drag and pro drag class. Currently all FWD cars are lumped together regardless of class or trim which gives unfair weight advantage to some, but until we have more comparators this won’t change.

Anyway that’s the run down of me and my car.

Heres a pic

One of my good friends in the USA made it for me, his name is Geoff, he operates full-race.com he's been making high performance manifolds and products for yrs now and lately his business has picked up hardcore, quality race products for racers, he’s a top bloke.

14-09-2003, 12:09 PM
Thanks guys....Mod your car Setanta... its wroth it :) trust me.

As for jamboree i was entered to compete this year, but unfortunately I have withdrawn as I simply can't get the car ready in time due to a number of reasons, which kinda suxs. We would be going there and practicing, not racing because were not ready, so I decided to pull the plug and concentrate on fixing up issues that need to be fixed on the car before competing, last thing we want to do is practice in front of a large crowd, when we are ready we will race, none stop.
