Hi,

New here.

Just bought a 06' 7th Gen Accord Euro (black, auto). Getting it in a couple of weeks.

I've read many threads about breaking into the engine till around 10,000km before it 'loosens up' and is rev-happy. So how would you guys break into a new Euro ! Should I be babying it? or should I be having some fun and do the REAL break-it-in revving it hard ocasionally?

Maybe a breakdown say:
0-1,000km easy, gentle, not redlining?
1,000km-5,000km revving hard?
5,000km-10,000km, go for gold?

Any ideas?

From what i heard, be gentle to the car in the first 1000kms, after that u can rev as hard as you can .. but be sensible though :) and obey traffic rules

I wonder if there's any tech papers about how all that works about breaking in an engine.

you can try this. Sound abit harsh though, some people might be apprehensive.

i used this method to break in my engine(after i drove it out of the showroom i took the car out onto open/windy roads and redlined it in every gear for about 80kms) and im on 4000kms atm and its running perfectly fine.

redlining every gear within the cars' first 1000km... that;s not a so good idea to do...

my opinion is to drive gentle... so no vtec'in for the first 1000km... and make sure u dun use full syn engine oil like until 10,000km... give it some mineral based to run...
after 1000km service.. rev it up but still obey to the traffic rules...

VERY interesting driven. How many of you guys have broken an engine in that way ????? Sounds almost risky yet makes some sense.

Obeying safety rules goes without saying :)

I'm planning to take the car up to brisbane in its 1st 1000km, what do you guys reckon?

Well the way I see it...

If you go for Gold and rev the heck out of it in the first 1000km, alot of minute metal shards will contaminate the oil and possibly cause early wear of the cylinder walls etc..
Therefore its best to limit it to say 5000rpm for the first 1000km.

But after reading that article, i'm not so sure now lol.

But yeah. I'm getting my new Euro next week and I can guarantee u i'm not going to redline it (in fact ive never redlined my Civic!), but I'm gonna hit VTEC a few times thats for sure :D
