got an ek1 with 17", lower it with lovell sport lows (30mm lower). The front tyres scrub against the plastic guard when I corner (sometimes even with slow speed).
I read somewhere from this forum that removing the guard would be ilegal. Is there someway to move the guard further up? Do I need to buy new guards?

You can roll/lip the guards but I am not sure that would help. I suggest speaking with a suspension expert - they might be able to push the guard back and screw it to the body?

I did talk to the suspension guy when I got the suspension done, he said he can't do anything about it. So i guess have to talk to the bodyshop guy.

A bodyshop guy should be able to help. Speak to a few different shops and ask them what they would do.

Me EK1 is lowered 2.25 inches and it still doesnt scrub. Are your wheels 17x7?

Its not just the width, but also offset and tyre size.

yea, it's 17x7 with 42+ offset. I know it's too big.
I noticed in this forum that most of the tyres/wheels related threads don't say anything much about the offset

Thats exactly what a mate is running with a +40 offset and 205/40 tyre. He is lowered and is fine.

mine is +42 with 205/40 tyres, does that make lots of different? maybe my car has lower guards?
simbadda54
22-03-2006, 04:41 PM
that shouldnt make much of a difference. I have a EK1 just like urs. Maybe cos i got more camber

i dunno what my chamber is, have to look that up.
When i was about to install it, the suspension guy warned me about possible scrubbing on my rear and said my front would probably be ok. But then it's my front instead of my rear.

Mate, I got exactly the same problem with ths 17s on my EK1. I had to roll the rear guards, but they guys who did it reckoned they couldn't do the front ones.
I've got the car booked in on Monday to get it sorted, I'm taking it to a place that specialises in this, and they know what they're on about - they do it to Ferraris and Maseratis regularly, without damaging the paintwork. So my little civic is set!
When I get it back I'll post up how they did it.

Exactly the same as mine, and I can tell you it isn't too big. There are many civics out there with bigger/wider rims, it's just that they've probably modded the guards a bit to get the wheels to fit properly.

It depends on how low your car is and I would suspect camber would also make some difference.

That didnt eleviate the scrubbing? Any idea on what they were charging to fix the guards?

DomenEK: The rear guard is not the plastic one is it? My scrubbing sounds like it comes from the front.
mrwillz: I fitted lovell sport low which lower the car by about 30 mm from factory height. The suspension guy said if I go for super low, will defntly scrub.
FLIP86: It happens occasionally though. When I turned fully left normally, sometime it rubs sometime it doesn't. I agree with you, it also freaks me out specially when the tyres are new and still shiny.
Zdster: my chambers are
Left front: -0.8deg, Right Front: -1.3deg, Left Rear: -1.2deg, Right rear:-1.3deg
Front Cross chamber: 0.5deg

my front wheels are inside my guard, it used to rub bad but i cut the mud guards underneath and now its abit better but i still get running on bare metal on full lock when going on bumps. thats the price u gotta pay for lowering ur car, u'll get over it believe me :)

That didnt eleviate the scrubbing? Any idea on what they were charging to fix the guards?I rolled the rear guards, and that stopped the scrubbing I had on the rear wheels when I first lowered the car. The front ones were not too bad, I just cut the plastic and it seemed to fix the problem in most circumstances. But since I got all new polyurethane bushes installed, it seems to have exacerbated the scrubbing at the front.
As I said, I'm having the front ones fixed by specialists on Monday, I'll post up exactly what they have done after I get it back.
civicCXI:
The rear guards are not plastic - see above. My scrubbing comes from the front too, mainly on the passenger side, but if I do a hard left hand turn, or go over a bump while turning left, then the drivers side scrubs as well.

i have come to the conclusion its all part and part of having a lowered car, so i have just dealt with it and cringe everytime i hear it :(

Hi guys....im getting Tein SS Coilovers and i have 205/40/17 rubber on 17"x7" rims with offset of 42 i think (mayb its 40...can't remember).
The height range is -1.2" to 3.3" at the front and 0.2" and 2.8" at the rear or something like that. So if i set it to -1.2" all round...which is 31mm....will i get scrubbing???
Coz it seems rediculous as i have about a 50mm gap between my tire and my guard at the front and 45mm at the rear (less due to subwoofer in the rear).

1.2" is not way low enough to look good. U will need at least 2" to reduce the gap between ur tires and the guard and even then you shouldnt get and scrubbing. Dont put the teins to waste dude
my 17x7 +35 offset scrubs when i full lock. lowered 2.5" :D
I was told my guards/fenders are too thin to be rolled (although I know some ppl who has rolled their guards)

I ultimately want a 2" drop....but if that means ill get a shit load of rubbin...then ill hav to raise. If i get a lil bit of rubbin then i wont care.
But theres no way im droppin more than 2" since then guards need 2 b rolled and as others said its really hard 2 find places that will do it for the front guards
plus i spoke 2 my paint & body repair guy...and he said even if u do manage to roll the front guards, your paint is bound 2 get screwed up there

one thing u need to consider also is whether the car gonna be full most of the time or not. I got the wheels + rims with the same size as urs, and lower it so that the front look just above the tyres. They said it's lowered by 30 mm, but i guess it's more than that. The front, right one mostly, rubs when i turn fully left on certain road, even at slow speed.
