View Full Version : Want to fit rear and better front swaybars to my EK1, what size?

Basically the car (EK1 sedan) is a daily driver, which may one day get taken to the track. I want to have a bit more fun in the twisties on those 'spirited' drives.

I've got a price for fitting an 18mm rear sway bar, but I'm unsure of what I should do to the front factory swaybar.

What are your recommendations/experiences? Should tie bars be included as well?

Cheers.

Most people will suggest a 22mm rear - however you need to be careful about ripping the subframe. I would check out the discussion posted about the ASR subframe brace. You could pair the ASR brace with an itr sway bar (22 mm I believe) and use that as a rear. Alternatively you could just run a whiteline 22mm rear (as a number of members have done) and just moniter the how your subframe goes.

I would suggest trying the rear swaybar first and then making a determination if you need the rear. Lots of people have run a rear without the front and are happy - it doesnt provide that much oversteer just having a rear.

But if I were to fit a rear and not touch the front, wouldn't a 22mm rear swaybar be a bit hardcore and create too much oversteer?

It doesnt add that much oversteer. Compared to stock the amount of oversteer is still reduced.

a larger rear swaybar will not "create" oversteer...only make the rear more twitchy and possible to "lift off" if not carfeul. But its a much better handling package than having a small or no rear swaybar :)

Go the 20/22mm whiteline combo WITH reinforcement

i rekcon a 22mm rear without front is an overkill .

a slight change in throttle in a high speeds coner would create life off oversteer (and yes; i dont agree with ben's definition of oversteer, but who cares its just terminology)...

it will all depend on the driver skills too... but i would rather drive a car that is optimise before i improve..

So in other words, either:

- go the 18mm rear sway bar and leave the front one stock, or

- Fit the 22mm rear swaybar (with reinforcement) and upgrade the front one to, say 27mm??

I need to improve my driving skills before I go too hardcore on the sussy mods...
