View Full Version : [EURO] Changing Parking/Position Lights - What a pain in the arse!

ok

so i got some nice 9x LED wedge bulbs today....decided to change the parking/position lights....

so, i pop the hood...and well.....shite, there was no way my hand was gonna fit in there to change the bulbs...

to the manual i go, and it states to remove that plastic fender thingy ma bob....which was fair enough

however, that thing doesn't really come down easily when u pull it down.....i mean, i could only pull it down so far (without ripping the damn thing off) so i could stick my hand in to change the bulbs....and even this wasn't easy as the gap was quite small and the plastic fender thingy was pushing against my wrist...

to 'add insult to injury', the led bulbs i had were too wide and didn't fit through the hole into the light.... :o

has anyone else found it hard to change these bulbs? anyone found an easier way?

also, if anyone has changed their parking lights, post some piccys and details of the bulb...i wanna see....

You need to peel down the fender, not just make a gap. The first time is a pain. Now I can do it without any lights at night on the street, just by feeling around.

I use the single LED bulbs. http://i7.ebayimg.com/02/i/03/b7/6e/c0_1_b.JPG
The throw of the light is less than the stock bulbs, but it is white/bluish and brighter when looked at head on.

Come to the next Ozhonda meet and I can help you change your parker bulbs. :)

Shweet they look like the same size lights as in my Civic. Yeah those LED lights look mad! They give out a silvery blue-white colour

ps. Are the Euro's Halogen lights type H4 like in the EG civics? Or do they use the newer types?

yeah tell me about it. we were changing the ones in my mates euro a few months back. and the led fell off inside the light housing. we had to do a "macguyver and get some blu tack on a piece of wire, luckily we even got it back.
hehe
we're changing my mates one agen next week.
but its so annoying!

EuroDude

LOL yeah that happened to me to - I had to remove the whole headlight assembly to get the bulb out

It's easier going through the wheel arch.. I think another member, euro77 managed to fit the bulbs through the engine bay though.....

well i peeled down the fender to make a gap...lol

i couldn't see how i was going to pull down alot of the fender, felt as though i was gonna rip it - esp. how i only took those 2 thingy screws out as per manual...

and those bulbs...i have those, but i find that they're not bright enough...hence i bought these other bulbs but they were too wide and wouldn't fit...they're in my door atm and look pretty cool, i'll post some pics of the door light soon...

going over to my friend's place later to retrieve some brighter (but smaller so it fits) LED bulbs i gave my friend since he aint using it no more....only catch is i have to take one out of his headlight that he dropped inside his liberty...

lol i got a funny story with trying to change these parkers to led's...

At one point i became kind of obsessed with the parkers/lights, i got some 4300k halogen bulbs with a whiter tone (that ended up blowing quickly but thats a different story). I managed to remove the bulbs by just going through the engine bay (not removing the plastic fender guard thing. And after a bit of stuffing around i finallly got the leds into the little sockets ready to be re-inserted into the parker light position. FINALLY got them in and stood back to admire my work... then they both almost simultaneously popped out of their sockets and went into the park light "clear diffuser" cavity if you know what im talking about. I didnt think id ever be able to get them out.. but with a compact vacum cleaner and a syphon from my sisters fish tank i managed to suck the bastards out after a day of thinking theyd be there forever.

The moral of the story for me... the parkers sometimes aren't worth the hassle and a re a novelty that quikcly wares off if the LEDS give out (which the ones i boiught did continiously) or the colour looks unnatural and plain shite. Personally i've removed mine and prefer the look of the two low beam lights.. Having said that good luck

I put mines on through the wheel arch, u will just need to feel where the bulbs are and take them off.

corn_flakes
24-03-2006, 11:59 AM
oh, i can change them fine....

just wondering how far you guys peel the fender guard thing down? coz i didn't pull mine down far coz it felt like i was gonna rip it out if i pulled it any harder....

and yes the parking lights are a novelty, i've bought so many of those LED bulbs off ebay, buying brighter ones every time....

aaronng
24-03-2006, 02:31 PM
It doesn't rip. I just peel enough so I can get my hand in without pinching.

Eurodude: the lowbeams are H1.

*shrug*

i can pull it down so that my hand doesn't get squashed by the fender gaurd thing...but as soon as i let go, it sort of 'closes' up again...

i reckon they should have seperated that fender guard...so we can take a whole little portion out instead of trying to pull the whole thing down

EuroDude
24-03-2006, 09:49 PM
Well - something Honda is good at, is shoving alot of stuff into tight inaccessible crevises.

One must wander if they use computers to design the engine bay area...

Hehe, peel it. Like an fruit. Not pull. When you peel it, you actually feel the pain of the fender. LOL.

One piece is good though. It's tougher, less rattles and also less chances of the fender being aligned wrongly.

mmm...u must have needed some help with mr KY warming gel then... ;)

oh, and if ppl are wondering (which u probably aint but i'll just tell u anyway), i changed my stock h1 halogens....

i first put some super white bulbs in (the ones with the blue glass and emit a white light)....yeh, these were not bad, the light comes out of the projectors a bit whiter with no yellow light, but i found that on the road driving it was quite the same as the stock bulbs....

so currently in my car i have ion blue globes....they're the ones that have that rainbow coloured glass, and they emit this blue light....u won't believe it when u look at them head on, but u'll notice the really blue light when u're driving at night, and it's heaps heaps brighter too....the good thing about these bulbs is when other ppl see u when u're driving, the lights 'flicker' depending on which angle u look at the light from (straight on it looks blue, look at it from the side it looks purple, etc etc)......so it has that nice effect.... :D i noticed this when my car was brought up from the valet parking, the only time i watch my car being driven by someone else....lol

aaronng
25-03-2006, 10:47 AM
What brand are your ion blue globes? Are they brighter than those +50% bulbs?

According to this guy - anything with blue glass gives off less light so if you want distance don't buy them

dunno what brand they are...just some random brand i bought on ebay for $20 not incl postage....

they seem to work really well though....

the glass isn't blue....it's clear with that sort of rainbow tint....and when u look at the headlight, the light looks yellow like the stock bulbs....it's when u stand at a distance that u see the blue/purplish colours...

oh, and btw....the parking LED bulbs i said that didn't fit in my headlight coz it was too wide....i stuck it in the door lights...

i changed all my bulbs to LED's
the side door lights, the interior lights (front and back), licence plate lights, and boot light to white LED's. these are just cheap white LED's i got from ebay
for my parkers, i bought something with a brandname. i have 2 pairs. atm i have PIAA white leds in there and if they ever go, i have RAYBRIG ones ready to be put in.

corn_flakes
26-03-2006, 08:54 PM
haha are u buying those LEDs and those PIAA and RAYBRIG lights from teh same seller?

think his name was like warden_jp or something on ebay!

oh, and post pics of those PIAA and RAYBRIG lights that u installed for ur parking lights, i want to see how bright they are....

for some reason i didn't believe the pictures they had on the ebay page....

NOOOOOOOO! I was changing the Parking lights with LED's and one fell into the enclosure :(

The one on the Left went in fine, but I couldnt screw the Right one in, I must have rotated it 100 times :( Damn that steering fluid reserviour lol

Anyway I'll try a vacuum cleaner. But if it doesnt work, how hard is it to remove the light enclosure? Do u need to remove the front bumper?

Maybe I can use a magnet-on-a-stick contraption/

aaronng
28-03-2006, 06:37 PM
Vacuum cleaner with a narrow hose connected to it.

Easier to install by going through the fender. Less chance of dropping the bulb in.

EuroDude
28-03-2006, 06:48 PM
Yep I'll use a narrow hose

The fender way looked like a pain to do, but I guess u just need to remove two screws and pull it away... I'll check the manual.

aaronng
28-03-2006, 07:39 PM
It's very easy. Just peel the fender like a fruit. You'll have enough space to get your whole hand in up to your wrist.

EuroDude
28-03-2006, 08:16 PM
You're right - going though the fender is heaps easier.

And yeah, I rigged up a small rubber hose to the vacuum cleaner and managed to snag the LED and gently pass it through (although it dropped a billion times lol).

ps, they look mad lit up, but its a bit too blue I think (at least compared to the stock halogens):

Thanks man! Actually they are white LED's (they are clear and shine white-silvery when they are in the open), but the Euro's "diffuser" makes it go very blue for some reason

Chris_F
28-03-2006, 09:18 PM
oh true, cool.

well i think the white led defintiely looks a lot better than standard on the 06 models. The combination of the orangey halogen bulbs and the blue side parkers can look a bit off

EuroDude
28-03-2006, 09:33 PM
Yeah the blue and orange really do clash - but a pair of Philips CrystalVisions should solve that problem. http://www.nam.lighting.philips.com/us/automotive/products/crystalvision.php

...or maybe the BlueVisions, but I prefer white light.

Can you get defected 4 the blue LEDs? I've been done three times now and don't want to be done again ... but reckon I'm a glutton for punishment, though. Might just put these on and see how I go.

Yes, it is defectable. Blue and red lights at the front and top of the vehicle are reserved for emergency services and police use only. IN a worse case scenario, you could be charged for "Impersonating a police vehicle".

I just went for a ride to some really dark spots..the parker lights were like blue dots from the side but quite bright if you look at them from the front angle..by tha way i like them.. might just get HID bulbs replaced to 6000 or 6500 to match the parkers later

EuroDude
14-06-2006, 09:26 PM
my camera blurred the lights quite a bit, but yeah they look virtually identical even with the 06's having a different brushed pattern on the plastic cover.

6000 would look freakin sweet

I bought some single LED white parkers but they weren't bright enough so I swapped 'em for a set with 4 LEDs in each - much better. I whacked the single LEDs in the front door panels, and another pair above the rear number plate. Also bought a set of ultra white H1 globes for the high beams - now all lights across the front match the HIDs. Changing the foggies over to a pair of Nokya Hyper Yellows, they're in the post coming from the USA for about $60 including postage.

I just put some of those 6LED in as parkers and they look a bit too blue compared to the HIDs, especially up close. From a distance they seem to match but I'm worried bout pulling up to a booze bus and the cops having a go.
Anyone using some parkers that match the factory HIDs?
If so what ones?

stephen8512

i used LED for my parkers and id have to say to pple who have done it or thinkin of doin it, to not do it
the life of the LED is quite short....something like 6 months...and it appears blue even if its a WHITE led, so u may get trouble from the 5-0
i have those jdm polarg white bulbs instead. they match nicely with the HIDs and they actually are WHITE light, not WHITE leds taht appear blue.
LED'sare only good for interior, buta thats my opinion

Thats true for normal white LED's, but Im using the newer style Super-LED's that are 5x brighter and output normal 4300k color (not blue at all), and they look fine in the 03-05 parkers (but the MY06 blue covers make it blue lol, not excessively tho).

LED's are good for exterior if you buy the right ones. All my brake lights are LED's and it looks about the same as stock.

Ah yes, also for the rear number plates.

Don't worry, Honda doesn't make the bulbs for the Euro, they get them aftermarket too. You can see the brand printed on the stock bulbs.

The parkers don't generate enough heat to crack from your finger oil like the headlights. Don't worry too much. :)
