Hey everyone! Just writing up a review on my Buddy Club Spec III cat back exhaust I got for my EK1 sedan. Now I’ll worn you guys, the exhaust I got is for a coupe for they don’t come for a sedan, but coupes and sedans have pretty much the same system. But it needed some slight modifications. Like extending the cat piping for it was about 160mm short of the cat when I installed the system, and the removal of the metal heat shield that’s near your fuel tank. But that’s only if you plan on putting it on yourself! Otherwise take it to your exhaust guy to put it on! Just extend the piping on your cat and remove the shield and it should be good to go.

Anyhow, I’ll get onto the review now! Straight out I will say it is a ****ing awesome exhaust system! More torque is noticed in mid to low rev range and has the best note! And that’s coming from a d16y4! I’m sure it would sound even better out of a b series or k series engine! And when you have the g/f in the car, can just chuck the silencer in and it still has the great note with half the noise.

The whole system itself only weighed about 4-5kg! As opposed to my old cheap exhaust that weighed about 15kg! Its been very professionally made with perfect 60mm dia. mandrel bent stainless steel piping and welds, and makes it easy to handle by coming in 3 pieces that just bolted together via flanges with gaskets. And when you think that’s not enough, take a look at the muffler tip! Looks tough as!

Overall I give this system a high rating for it had made a big difference to my car look, sound and power wise. It may cost the bit extra than other exhausts, but is well worth it! This kind of system will get you laid!

Only negatives are that on my car is the resonator hangs down an extra inch or so from my last exhaust, but that just may be from the exhaust being for a coupe. I’m sure it would be a better fit for the car it was built for.

I’d like to thank Trav (egSi) for get this for me in like 2 days! And helping me with the research to find out if it would fit my car! I absolutely love it!

Dave

Here are some pics from when I put it on!

damn! most titanium exhausts weigh more than that!

i ve heard this thing in real life and damn it made me jealous... amazing sound, nice and loud too. Amazing thing is though.. keep it at or around 2500 and it was dead quiet which is awesome for highway cruising etc.

top stuff dave - the turtle is now un-constipated

they don't make this for ek1 hatchback do they??? What kind of header u got there? maybe the power improvement comes from the header.
One thing to remember when taking off the silencer, turn off the engine 1st, otherwise the thing will fly out.

nice chicken btw

TAKE OFF THE SILENCER! lol

take it off! you're missing out on the full BCIII system! you don't see alot of people using BC spec exhausts becoz they're damn loud.

i remember hearing some people at track getting annoyed because an EK4 had a BC exhaust..

This sound like one impressive exhaust system. I might consider buying a set when my project is up and running.

nice write up!

as nice as this exhaust sounds its not for everyone. It is a VERY loud even if you keep it on a constant throttle position.

Be warned my friend got defected 2 weeks ago and he got 109 db at 4,500 rpm. . He was just minding his own business as well, no hooning.

they should make it for ek1 hatch, coz they have them for ek4's... which means some size and shape... got an x force header which i had BEFORE i put on the exhaust which was how i could notice the improvements

yeah, also take it off while car is off so you don't burn your hands or die of carbon monoxide poisoning *cough cough*!!!!

what type of BC exhaust was he using? coz he may have had the spec II... which is pretty much a straight through which and is as loud as (insert f word here)!!!

i'm keeping silencer in just for around town purposes... like i said... it does get fairly loud (especially with no interior!!!), but i don't go lappin or go 'v-tecin' my car! couple of times a week i drive it or when trackin... its not something u'd put on your mums car! but for the circumstances i'm in... i love it!

if your after something more friendly... prolly have a good look at the spec IV... which has no welds, just all metal folds and is meant to be the quietest BC exhaust out while being a power happy system... i just got mine coz it was in stock and i liked the look of it!

its not loud

definately loud enough to be defected but a festiva with a fart can on an oem catback will be over the legal limit. i have heard crappy excels idling that are louder than daves spec III at wot.

if u want loud, go Buddy Club spec II

Hey Guys,

Congrats on getting your BC Spec III. I have an X Force header with a BC Spec III Cat Back system too. I'm selling the cat back system soon, IMO 2.5 is too big for a B16A, it feels like it over breathes and plus it pisses the neighbours off in the morning when I leave for work.

does this fit straight onto oem cat for ek4's?

sure does!! straight bolt on!!

and yes, it comes with gaskets to put between the flanges... but i put mani-seal on them to help with a seal. i'm also told best to put some certain grease on the flange bolts so they are easier to undo down the track

isnt 2 1/2" better for the top end of the B16A???

does it make low and mid range weaker??
