Hey guys,

i know very well this question has probably been covered but cant seem to bring up any search results.

Now being a nissan fan on nissansilvia.com i know all the engine codes of all nissan cars. i.e SR20. im now moving onto hondas as im looking at getting an EG hatch. im interested in doing an engine conversion but instead of asking you guys "what engine swap should i do" id better find out what engines are avaliable. i know there are B series and D series engines i.e D16 and B16. i presume the 16 means 1.6 litre but what i need to know is what do the ltters stand for i.e B16A B16B etc. Basically im looking for a run down of all honda engines and what there codes stand for, please help me out

thanks guys

For Australian Codes, I have made this website. Superhonda is American and some chassis and engines differ to ours.

From a d series engine? If so, you need to change over the engine mounts.

and maybe need to add EFI fuel system if the EG is a carby engine - so dont by a EG Civic Breeze!!!!!!!!!!!

well im looking at getting an EG civic (dont have it yet) but dont even know what motors they come with. my plans were to get a base model EG (cheapest) get some coilovers, DBA brakes, sway bars and some decent wheels with sticky rubber. Then get a conversion done. I'll be using the car for track days/daily/hills driving and want an engine thats got atleast 1.6 displacement, EFi, twin cam, vtec and ofcourse decent power output (around 100kw-120 maybe) AT THE WHEELS though. i wouldnt be to fussed if i had just under 100. Also keep in mind once i have the motor in i wouldnt go crazy with mods, prob just exhaust, extractors and better intake.

just saw on "civic type R"s website what motors are in the EG. .............they all come with some sort of D series engine.....does this mean no matter what EG model i get ill have to change engine mounts.

From what I have seen, and this may be different there, but they make more for B-series swaps, mounts, exhaust, whatever, so you can do a straight swap now.

Well, I know that a DC2 VTi-R with a B18C2 makes 90 odd kw @ the wheels stock standard. Maybe a B18C2 would be what you are looking after.

accordtech
28-03-2006, 11:38 PM
well yea thats what im looking at, an integra motor or somthing with some grunt, but itd be so much easier on the wallet if i can get a motor thats a straight swap.

28-03-2006, 11:45 PM
how much are b18c2's compared to b18c7's out the type R- Heaps more? or worth that extra $?

my absolute max budget-is 10 grand, i will not pay a cent over 10gs for an engine swap, id be happy to pay 5-7. 8-10 is pushing it but possible.

yourfather
29-03-2006, 12:26 AM
pretty much man, a B18C2 from a VTi-R is no where near 5K. I dunno, heaps of threads comparing Type-R engine to VTi-R. Same block, just different componentry. pistons, rods, head, exhaust, intake.

Bang for buck turbo a B18C2 :D

accordtech
29-03-2006, 12:25 PM
do they come turbo? or is there a bolt on kit avaliable. im weary of turbocharging a motor not designed to be turbo...

yourfather
29-03-2006, 02:04 PM
They come N/A but , Yeah theres heaps of bolt on kits, but yer better off building your own one. Id decide on what engine I wanted in there first and then figure out budget, but yeah if you are going to go turbo, this is the best time because the engine is out and can be bolted on to and then dropped in.

And heaps of people on here and in the USA have turbo'd their B series honda engine.

Q-Ball has a Integra B18B that makes over 200kw @ the wheels.
GSI-PSI makes about 170.
ProECU makes 160 with 4.5lbs of boost.

Reliability is pretty good from what Ive heard too.

yea ive decided to go with a B series 18 out of a teggy. im only aiming for around 130kw so i dont see the need to go turbo. i mean one of the main reasons i decided against getting a nissan skyline or 180sx is because a non turbo car is much more responsive (better for the driving i do) and much less maintainence $ like insurance etc. i just need as much info as i can get on all the B18 motors avaliable. like whats the difference between b18c1 and b18c2 etc etc..........

also Whats the difference in EG's....i.e EG 5, EG 6 and so on- does it just refer to what model civic like civic breeze?

yourfather
30-03-2006, 10:11 AM
B18C1 is american version of engine
B18C2 is Aussie version.

And as for EG's im not too sure. Check out the redbook.

alright cheers for that

looks like im going B18C2  :D

i looked at a few EG's yesterday aswell so its almost time i bite the bullet and get 1, very cool little cars.

very good choice,

and at under 1000kg, the B18C2 is enough to make the EG civic quite a quick "pocket rocket"

try to get a ___Si___ model Civic, as it has better extra's, (eg airbag) and again do NOT get a carburetted version!!!!

here is the list:

http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/vehicle/vehicles.php?make=HOND&family=PSCIVIC&year=19930

the breeze is budget, the GL is average, the Si is luxury...

Good choice!

Good luck with your project. Maybe you could find a nice white EG or something, they look really sexy <3

Plus with a B18C2 in there, you'd be HEAPS quick. Everyone would be clueless.

umm i really dont understand why i cant get a carby motor model one if its getting swapped with an injected motor anyway?

yourfather

because if you get an EFI one, all the wiring and vacuum stuff will already be there. just makes the job a bit easier.

ah i see, well thanks for your help guys. now the hunt begins for an EG..

i may be wrong on a few bits... but

for example, b16a2

b is the series of engine, the 16 is the dispacement (1600cc) the a is the number of engine in the series, so the b16b came out after. and the number at the end is the... dunno :p

tRipitaka
30-03-2006, 09:58 PM
the number at the end denotes the generation..

i.e.
b16a1******** (gen1 b16a.. found in crx sir, integra.. (dunno what model))
b16a2******** (delsol, ek4,em1)

unless it's jdm.. jdm engines don't have the number at the end.. just b16a******* or b18c*******

and to accordtech..
try to find an Si or VTi.. as these are EFI and come with rear disc brakes.. Si will be lighter, as they don't have sunroofs (someone confirm this?)
if u're set on a b18c2 from a teg.. u can use the teg engine mounts on the eg, as the eg/dc2 share the same engine bay..
but no matter what, aslong as you're buying an AUDM eg, u're gonna have to change your mounts..

try not to buy a carby eg.. as u'll have more trouble doing the EFI conversion, and at times, may not be as reliable as it would if it came EFI from factory..

if you buy a breeze, u'll be getting no power windows, optional AC (so not all had them), rear drum brakes.. and will need a EFI conversion..
if you buy a GL, same as the breeze, but u'll get power windows and AC..
if you buy a GLi, same as the GL, but you'll have an EFI car.. u'll still have the rear drums though..

so i recommend the Si/Vti as the best base for your conversion

accordtech
31-03-2006, 02:31 AM
sweet........im not hoping to pay over 7 for one.........hope this is possible. also anyone got a BALLPARK figgure of conversion costs?

tRipitaka
31-03-2006, 08:16 AM
7000 is a bit tight for buying a good condition eg..
u'd find that the clean ones (Si/Vti) are around 8000-10000..
but if you don't mind the base model EGs (Breeze/GL/GLi).. you'd find that you can get them for ~4000 - ~6000

b16a2 conversion = ~3000 - 4000
b18c2 conversion = ~4000 - 5500
b18c7 conversion = ~6000 - 7500

lol ok ok......i wont get a carby model. does it really make the conversion that much harder? my best mates uncle owns a honda workshop so he'll be doing it. iam i simply going to make his life easier if i buy one already EFi?

by the way those conversion prices make me smile....even the c7 conversion is within my budget.
